Hello Tera. Your story sounds similar to mine. I too am 28 years old and saw a lot of hypocrasy in my congregation. Thankfully I have a good relationship with my parents.
I just want to know. Do you and your mother talk to each other anymore?

Hi and welcome, terafera!
I'm glad things are finally working out for you. Just curious, has your mom made amends for the crappy way she treated you? Also, how is your dad doing? Is he OK?

HI Tera! Glad to hear your story-- Another person realizing the Watchtower's lies alway warms my heart. I'm sorry for what you had to go through but at least it made you a smarter, better person and more loving I'm sure. You will find many friends here and nevermind the JWs that com on here to give their little speeches, they don't last long :( :)
Hope you and your lovely family are doing well & have a GREAT New Year!!!! E-mail if you want to talk or anything :)

Hi Tera!
Welcome to the board. I am glad that you found the strength to not get baptized.
My story is very similar. My mother got involved with the JW when I was 4, in 1966, got my weak father into it; he started drinking-she called him an alcoholic. He ended up leaving in very similar circumstances. You could be my sister. She too was cute and dated worldly guys. Got pregnant at 18. My mother used to beat us the same way! Very scary. My sister even wanted to go to college for journalism!
I hope you go on to college. I did and graduated at age 37. It was worth the time and sacrifice.
Good luck and welcome to the board. If you are my sister, e-mail me! You have the address!

Great story. It always amazes me, the stupidity they display in dealing with people. Your son deserved a father, but they wanted you to kick him out because he didn't believe their way. How nuts is that?? Glad you became a "legal" family, though, and are happy.
How was your Christmas? I just celebrated my first since I was four years old. 52 years later...........grrrrr.
Welcome to our board!!

hey tera, welcome to the board. I am sorry for your experiences and as I am sure you know by now you are not alone in your situation. I really encourage you to go to college. I am in grad school right now. You can do it!!!!! Hope to see more posts from you....
Welcome and thanks for sharing your story!
I hate hearing about the hypocrisy and abuse suffered at the hands of the WTBTS. They suck.
I think you are going to have a lot of fun on this board. It is great for laughs and support.
I look forward to reading more of your posts :o)

Thanks for your story, and welcome. Alcohol and JWs seem to go together. When I was a JW I drank heavily, as did many others I knew. I think it was a kind of self-medication to help in denying our feelings of guilt and sadness over belonging to and promoting an organization that we knew at a deeper level is a seriously dishonest and dysfunctional cult. Anyway, Im out and sober now and I am always glad to hear when others like yourself have broken free. Again, welcome.
Welcome terafera.
You have a wonderful writing style. I'm sorry to hear how horrible your upbringing was. Now you can persue your life ahead of you. j2bf
