Even after years of study at Awake U?

Taken from a yahoo group discussion:

    > On local needs this week, WASH HANDS after using Restroom. AND the paper towel
has germs too, so throw away carefully. If sickly - Stay home! In separate
letter Branch previously brothers told must attend meeting unless deathly ill.
New instructions may be hard to follow by some old-timers so need to be patient.
If many sick in congregation, elders to confer with CO on decision to cancel
meetings. Just a few of high points from branch letter I remember.
    >
    > a Brother in cleaning at a 2-day Cir Asy. said over 50% of brothers didnot
wash hands after using toilet. Special announcement had to be made at assembly.
    This is bad !!!!!!!
    >
We had the same local needs .telling us to wash hands When coughing, cough in
clothing or tissue , if you have symtoms stay home .as to the preaching work
they mention to use caution at doors during the H1N1 outbreak if we are sick we
can do phone territory .The Brother who handled the local needs is a Doctor so
he went into a little more detail as to what the virus was etc.
Stay well Bothers and Sisters and be carefull.

Stupid is probably not the right word. I am realizing, sadly, that many seemingly very intelligent people need to be told how, when, what, where, and why to do most things. They are functionally inept without "instructions" and I'm afraid it's only going to get worse as our society hands over more and more of their responsibility to someone else to take care of.

This local needs is a response to a Letter regarding H1N1 virus. All congregations will get a similar talk.

We have many of the same reminders at work, posters on the subway and ads on TV. This is mostly because of the flu hysteria.

<rant>I believe there is a serious problem regarding hand washing. I see many men leave the washrooms at work after taking a crap without washing their hands. Then they type on their keyboards. Then they call me to fix their computer when they have a problem. Sure, why not? I don't mind getting their residual shit on my fingers. </rant>

Don't forget they've had a lifetime of conditioning to tell them that unless they're laid out in their coffin, they'd better be there at the meeting.

There are some witnesses I know who would still attend if they thought they had bubonic plague.

It's a sign of spiritual health to attend a meeting physically unhealthy. You get extra points for it!

I am not displeased that they tell people some common sense things that they should, but often don't do.
Some people have the attitude, "I didn't pee on my hands so no need to wash them." They miss the point and spread germs.

I am thrilled that they say that meetings can be cancelled for many sick ones, despite the self-serving reason that it would make JW's look bad if an outbreak were traced back to their meetings and that reason was held out. I am a bit unpleased that it takes a C.O. consultation to do this.

I am disgusted that they would say that if some are sick, they can do phone witnessing instead of door-to-door. If they want to even appear to care about people, tell them that if they are sick, refrain from the meetings and recruiting work and get some rest. That would at least make them appear to care, BUT NO. DO PHONE WITNESSING.

If someone is too sick to get out of bed and get to the hall can they really do phone witnessing? I think not.
