Having read all the above, now I understand the strange mishmash of features on this forum.. kudos to you Simon, for your work, both on and for the forum...
Having said that, did you look at the simple machines forum software, Simon? In my experience, it's one of the better ones around.

just install phpbb, free, has all the features anyone needs, 100x better than this forum software and any forum one person could write, and will take 15 mins to install. Another 30-60 mins on a converter script, run it and job's done.
