Apocalypse Delayed: A Study of Jehovah's Witnessesby James Penton. I had always taken an interest in Watchtower history, even reading the turgid Jehovah's Witnesses in the Divine Purpose book when I was 14, but lots of what Penton presented was completely new to me, and much of it shocking. There is a lot I don't agree with Penton over having reflected on many of the issues he raises, but the book was a revelation nevertheless.

If you're ready for something not quite so ex-JW/cult oriented, how about "Demon Haunted World" by Carl Sagan. He even mentions JWs failed prophecies and how Russell came up with the brilliant solution of making the fulfillment "invisible".
