I wonder why he is no longer an Elder? I am probably the wrong person for him to "preach" to about now. I am about ready to explode.

Darnkid - Breifly.
I was an uber dub until I did some reearch for the Memorial this year. It suddenly dawned on me that the FDS were my mediator to Jesus and that I could not have a proper relationship with God without them. That concerned me. I strated doing some research which showed me that the organisation was based on foundation of lies and scams. I found out the truth about the occult practice of Pyrimidology practiced by Russell, the autocratic and despotic leader style of people like Rutherford and knorr, I woke up to the fact that the organisation is cult that uses processes such as disfellowshipping as a means to control people and information. My research and led me to here, where I was given some great advice and learned about other people who had been where I am now. I decided that I would fade from the congregation.
I could not leave outright, my whole life has roots leading back to the congregation. The majority of my family are Witnesses, most of my business comes from witnesses, 43 years of my life being a witness means most of my friends are too. My children's friends are primarily witnesses. A couple of months back I bought Crisis of Conscience as a download, I got my wife to read it. She is now supporting me. We rarely go to meetings and are doing what we can can to build a life outside, but we have to fade and not get DF'd or DA ourselves unless we lose our family, and (selfishly) our inheritance.
Welcome to board Darnkid - it is great here, there are some wonderful people and more support than you can wish for.

Why don't you tell her how to find the posts of a member?

To read previous posts by a member of this board, click on the member's user name. Then choose from "Topics Started" or "Topics Posted". I think cantleave is still in to help his family members out and that he stepped down from eldership to facilitate his fade.
I can't imagine the Watchtower wanting a df'd parent to have any say over a child's life. The best that you can do is appeal to the aspects of your children's non-cult personalities. Arguing doctrine will get you no where. If you stay on JWN long enough, you'll be up on Watchtower new understanding more than most practicing jws. Welcome!

The interpretation of the rules on associating with the d/f family members can vary enormously. Like anything, they can justify whatever course of action they really want to take at heart .
In my recent experience :
A funeral when a d/f granddaughter was one of the family party.
Another funeral that followed long illness , a d/f daughter had shared caring for her J W Mother and was part of the funeral party and the "reception" later.
A wedding where a d/f mother was part of the bridal party.
All these were accepted as "essential family business", but another family , another K Hall body of elders, might have ruled the opposite...There are plenty of people on here with stories of really hard lines being taken

I did not mean to be rude. I am just facing this world alone-and by that I mean without my kids. All my life growing up as a witness I was told God is merciful-until I did something that was not approved of, then they were not so forgiving. My mother, father, brother and family, my children are all witnesses. I have no family now. What kind of God would ask a child to hate their parent? That is not a God I would want to worship-therefore I don't.
It is funny how they shun those who choose not to worship their way anymore, but they go door to door trying to get people to abandon the faith they have for theirs knowing they will be shunned by their old faith. Makes no sense.
Cantleave: I could not have just faded away-my family would have hounded me with no mercy. I think disfellowshipping was the only way out for me-sadly. I hope things work out for you, sincerely.

Darnkid, I really hope things work out for you. Hang in there and keep doing what you can to get the one's you love to start thinking for themselves.

Here is a little bit of hope.......
The Pew reports that 63% of those born/raised JW.....leave the organization.
I am one of the 37% of born/raised currently attending.........of that 37% I don't many are true believers.
Further more and more are becoming part of the 'conscious class'.....some remain for family ties or simply because it is their tradition (not their individual faith or personal belief).
Reassure your daughters that you love them, are there for them no matter what........and that when they are ready to learn the truth about the troof by examining the history not through 'apostate' literature but through the WTS own publications you can help make those older pubs available. (Reading older pubs especially Russell-Rutherford rarely results in JWkids remainging fully dedicated)
Actually you could compile a nice collection via archive.org, piratebay, chasson's site and many many many others onto a nice CD and present it as a present......so they can say they have near complete libraries of WTS material and than say you are reading (insert pub/mag).....
The main thing here is to keep them engaged in talking to you and to give them the tools to explore privately.......if worse comes to worse you could temporarily seek reinstatement for rescue reasons.
oh and I almost forgot.....

Billy the Ex-Bethelite
Welcome... you darnkid!
'...he said there was "new thinking".'
Yeah, I wonder how this "new thinking" would go over. Awake! July 2009, p. 29, par. 3:
Although the Bible makes a clear distinction between true and false teachings, God allows each person to choose how he or she will respond. (Deuteronomy 30:19, 20) No one should be forced to worship in a way that he finds unacceptable or be made to choose between his beliefs and his family. Does study of the Bible lead to family breakup? No. In fact, the Bible encourages a husband and wife who practice different religions to remain together as a family.--1 Corinthians 7:12,13
So, you shouldn't have to choose between your beliefs and your family. It's right there in their own magazine.
And they'll say that your beliefs are false? Well, JWs are still taking the Reasoning Book from door-to-door containing the false prophecy that the generation alive in 1914 would live to see the new world. Of course, there's plenty of other false teachings in there. Would they like to talk about them some more? No? Okay, run back to your dark little JW corner away from the light of truth.
