All mammals have similar emotional landscapes.
As mammals, we would expect to see similarities between us.

I recently saw a story in the news about a woman who had two dachshunds that were siblings.
One fell into the family's pool and drowned. The other one's fur turned completely gray from grief, even though he was only a couple of years old.

Thanks for posting that behemoth, what a picture!
I know animals grieve. I've seen it with my own dogs. When a lifetime best buddy was gone, the other was in a terrible state of mourning.
We were out walking about a month later. Down the block was another Doberman who looked identical to the one who had died. My fellow started leaping in the air with shear joy....something he never does. As we got closer, he stopped and went into his droopy head routine.
It was so hard to watch.

Finally-Free
Some animals are very emotional. A few years ago I was in hospital for 3 days. My niece went by the house to make sure the birds were fed and to give them some attention. In spite of that my cockatoo took my absence very hard and began to self mutilate. When I got home all of his wing and tail feathers were chewed off. Now I never go away overnight. If I have to go to a hospital I have someone nearby who can stay at my house.

Finally-Free, One of my new favourite stories is the one you told awhile back about Rocco and the cashews.
Makes me smile every time I think of it....
