My grandson is Seventh Day Adventist, he just graduated from from an SDA high school and plans to go to an SDA college to study theology. I asked him what he is doing for the summer and he said he was going to be a colporter! He knew the JW connection of the word from his mom, so we had a laugh about it. He will be selling Adventist books this summer. I have mixed feelings, I hated the door to door work, and left the dubs to get away from that kind of thing, so it seems strange. On the other hand, he is a good kid and the SDA influence has been good for him, neither of his parents attend, his paternal grandmother is the influence. There was only 25 students in the senior class, almost all are going on to higher education. He got a medal for over 200 hours of community service, and helped build a church in Mexico. He was mentored by the youth pastor and hopes to have his own non denominational church someday. He is doing this with no help from either parent, so hopefully it will all work out. Life is surprising sometimes.

An SDA colporter sells books to make money and some make a good living out of this type of work although its not common these days.
