so the caller ID keeps showing "concerned women",
repeatedly calling and leaving no message...

so tonight they got to talk to me...

them: hello, mrs. (totally mispronounced name
because of invented spelling at ellis island)

me: well, i can tell by the way you mispronounced
my name you have no i dea who i am... why are you
calling me at this hour (8:45 pm)

them: we are CONCERNED WOMEN OF AMERICA***
in washington DC and we have a statement made
by congress we want you to listen to... be sure to
    stay on the line.....

me: i have no intention of devoting any time to
this solicitation so tell me now why you are calling

    them: well, m .... m.....
can you tell me how to pronounce your name?

me: no... why are you calling?

them: well we are trying to keep congress from
    making us illegal...

    me: who are you?

    them: christian broadcasters

me: you are telling me the entire legislative
body of congress is trying to make christian
    broadcasting illegal?

    them: *silence* (fumbling thru script)

me: listen, i am not in your constituency
so do us both a favor and take this number
    off your call sheet

    "click"

bet that is how phone witnessing sounds
on the other side of the call... sheesh! how sad!

I got the Democrats here to quit calling me after I told them that if they did it again I was going to give a thousand dollars to the Republicans. What was most annoying was the call came from the office of a congressman who routinely takes about 80% of the vote in his district.

Well ok I was going to edit my post but the website is playing games with me. I was going to add that this type of thing is why I no longer have a land-line. Cell phone only. I only RARELY get a call like that. I'd say in three years I can count them on one hand.

Chickpea....that is awesome. Not many people can dumbfound a solicitor into terminating the call!

    @ watson: lmao!!

@ beks: oh i knew who they were before i picked up...
i had googled concerned women and there they were!

if i had had the time i would have played that hook
for a while longer, but i have 3 papers due by wed
and was finishing one last night so i just cut it short....

one avenue i might have explored is to have asked
for the muslim women's counterpart... or buddhist
or whatever ... i think it so narrow to presume the
mark of xianity is on everyone (or should be *shudder*)

the other might have been to say.... even though my son
is transgendered, it still says FEMALE on his birth certificate...
did you wish to speak to him as well?

i think this woman didnt expect someone who has
actually been in DC, on the hill, in policy discussion,
with "congress", to point out fallacies of her presentation....

my hero in the realm of "dealing with unwanted calls"
is tom mabe .... i am going to pursue this avenue of
benign retaliation as often as is oportune

Now that's entertainment! I love that Tom Mabe call.

In the past, I used to like messing with the Telemarketers for magazines. They'd have a whole list of free prizes for you if you'd sign up. I'd make them go through the whole list, then I'd tell them "I have all those items so I'm not interested. Thanks!" And then hang up.

Now, I've 'unpublished' my phone number so I don't receive many of those kinds of calls anymore.
