What was the name of the brother who was on the governing body and was in charge of the music for years. when they had the radio station on staten island. he died recently, he was about 90 years old.

I had dinner with him twice and have a photo of him at the dinner. Yet I can't remember his name. he talked like he had something in his mouth.

The Governing Body and the Committee they established to modernize, consolidate and move the Organization forward decided that it was time to change the songbook. There were probably several factors in the decision. Many of the song lyrics were outdated - using old expressions and contained beliefs that are no longer "accurate." They have simplified the lyrics. At least one song directly states that submission to the Governing Body is obediance to God. The talks and articles regarding singing songs of praise always emphasize that it is worship, but it also is used by those in authority to mentally and emotionally keep people in-line. The reworked songbook will help people do exactly that.

"I've heard before that the removal of some is due to them being unsingable. If that's the case why have they lasted so long and why were they included in the first place."

    Unsingable?

    I would argue unlistenable!

Except DNCall's efforts! I'm gonna go play his songs backwards....

Then, on January 3, 2001, at the age of 95, Karl Klein faithfully completed his earthly course.
The new song book in 1984 came out after about 20 years due to doctrinal changes, copyright issues

*** re chap. 7 p. 36 Rekindle That First Love! ***In the songbook produced by Jehovah’s people in 1905, there were twice as many songs praising Jesus as there were songs praising Jehovah God. In their 1928 songbook, the number of songs extolling Jesus was about the same as the number extolling Jehovah. But in the latest songbook of 1984, Jehovah is honored by four times as many songs as is Jesus.

*** w87 12/1 p. 26 The Value of Singing in True Worship ***In present-day Christian worship, singing also features prominently. In 1905 the book HymnsoftheMillennialDawn was published. The title page describes its 333 songs as "A Choice Collection of Psalms and Hymns and Spiritual Songs to Aid God’s People in Singing and Making Melody in their Hearts unto the Lord."

Then in 1928 a revised songbook with 337 songs was provided. It was called SongsofPraisetoJehovah, and its preface said: "These Songs will be found to be in harmony with the divine truths now due to be understood." However, as years passed and the light of truth increased, it became clear that some of these songs were influenced by thinking carried over from false religion. Additionally, Kingdom songs to encourage preaching the good news were needed, as public declaration came more to the fore.—Matthew 24:14; Hebrews 13:15.

In 1944KingdomServiceSongbook was provided, with 62 songs. Two decades later, in 1966, the book SingingandAccompanyingYourselvesWithMusicinYourHearts was released. This contained 119 Kingdom songs that covered every aspect of Christian living and worship, including witnessing to others and praising Jehovah God and Christ Jesus.

Almost another two decades passed, during which the light of truth kept on increasing. (Proverbs 4:18) The need was seen for yet another songbook. So in 1984 came the release of the songbook entitled SingPraisestoJehovah. It has 225 Kingdom songs, with words and melodies composed entirely by dedicated servants of Jehovah from all parts of the earth.

*** w86 10/15 p. 23 Praising Jehovah With Music ***Two new melodies were composed for favorite words because it was learned that the melodies previously used had not been composed by Witnesses. How could that have happened? A composer may hear a little-known tune. When it later comes to his mind, he might imagine that he composed it.

As the light shining on God’s truth became ever brighter in harmony with Proverbs 4:18, it was found necessary to change songs that had been in previous

I'd offer up the little sick green emoticon, but the GB's out-and-out craving for worship has jaded me to their increasingly bold requests for adoration.

In the years following 1975, Watchtower scientists and musicians, working together in perfect spiritual harmony, discovered a heretofore unknown musical scale which has become the basic for the new songs, most of which are sung in the key of G½, extra wide.

To unenlightened worldly people and raving mad apostates (hello there! Yes, YOU!) the songs sound like howling to the accompaniment of breaking glass, but to imaginary invisible people the alleged music is said to be quite soothing, especially when accompanied by the smoke of an animal sacrifice.

DNCall - aren't you glad now that you followed WTB&TS dictates and avoided the demonic influence of rock n' roll?

Wasn't obedience to "the slave" SO profitable for you?
