LOL That's not a description that fits my old man.

Funny how the people who most vigorously preach humility are the most arrogant bar stewards you could ever hope not to meet.

    Cheers

Had to add--and this, from the organization that claims to have gotten rid of the "clergy-laity" distinction. If you're a Jew and you become a JW, you're just trading one priesthood for another. One law code for another. It would be funny if it weren't so horrible.

Jews have not had a priesthood for um nearly 2000 years, but I take your meaning.

And modern jews can question away all they want; there is no heirarchy in mainstream judaism like the jw's have.

I went to a convention not long after the sex abuse scandal broke, and as I was walking in I heard something that stopped me in my tracks:

"Remember, brothers, that obeying the elders in our congregation is the same as obeying Jehovah."

No one's head exploded; was I the only one shocked by that statement? I know elders who are gossip mongers, liars and peeping toms, no exaggeration; I am going to obey them only if they give me a lobotomy.

I have a policy about elders; I don't talk to them, and they leave me alone. I am afraid if I have a conversation with one I will tell them they are unqualified, dangerous, uninformed hacks.
