I remember this girl friend of mine that was not a JW told me the bible says that you are not to swear, so I had her show me were it says that, but I do not think that scripture is talking about that kind of swearing. I think it means to not take an oath.

I think I should remember that if I ever have to take the witness stand, when they ask you to put your hand on the bible and say I swear to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth, and I will tell the judge the bible says for me to not to do that. I bet that would go over well The judge would probably get me for contempt of court

I know I am very careful about making promises...

I heard plenty of swearing off bruvvers, although I can't bring myself to use bad swear words. I don't think it's needed.

Yes. I swore a lot too but managed to keep it under control around most JWs. There were a few other brothers™ who swore a lot. In fact, we all seemed to swear a lot when we were out drinking in strip bars.

In the hall "flip" seemed to be everyone's favourite word.

My mother said my grandfather use to say that people that curse do so because they have a low vocabulary.

I don't know about that, I can think of a lot of curse words. After all I work around it all the time.

I never heard a jw swear from the platform; but off...............man, I can remember one brother would go out to the work site and cuss out his employees.

I was staying overnight with a friend at her parents and heard her day cuss out his wife...he didn't know I was there. His vocabulary changed as soon as I sat down at the kitchen table for breakfast.

It's not that jws cuss, is that they pretend they don't.

used to work with a Dub who would curse and swear all day long using the "F" and "C" word regularly , but when he would close in prayer in the K/H you would think butter wouldn't melt in his mouth, his emotional heart felt humbling prayers would reduce the cong to almost tears, I was the only one who knew the vile language he had been using earlier in the day, I used to quietly laugh to myself.

My ex Dub wife was very used to using the worse language as well, the F&C word mostly used, yet when the elders used to come around she would put on this poor humble persecuted sister tormented by her Apostate husband, I explained once to my parents that she regularly uses filthy vile language, they refused to believe me.

Of course I did. I was one of them that was guilty and it wasn't because I was vocabulary-word challenged either. I was spoken to about it by a couple of people who might have been 'stumbled' by my freedom of speech. I guess I am an angry person who feels that the world is full of shit and I sometimes told people so when it was necessary. I might have said the 'F' word but at least I wasn't doing it like some of the overrighteous hypocrites there. Besides, I didn't see what was so wrong about letting a word slip here and there. Didn't Jehovah refer to dungy idols? That means 'shitty' doesn't it?

    So what.
