It sure sounds like a hack job.

I have actually been reading the articles on the case in English here in the States and also in the German media. It sure is interesting to see how she was being portrayed by the European media (at least what i have read)

It seems to me that she was tried and convicted in the media before the trial started. They made her sound like a drug and sex maniac with this dark side. The physical evidence sure seemed to point to the guy who was convicted earlier, and much of the case against her and the boyfriend seemed somewhat flimsy.

It sounds like the evidence was handled very poorly and was totally contaminated.

Hopefully, justice will prevail in the end and something else will come out that proves her guilt or innocence.

Like others have commented, I didn't really follow the case until I saw it announced on CNN that the judge gave her 26 years in the pen. From what I saw, this happened in a small town in Italy where, as LovelyLil already stated---a woman's virtue is what's really on trial. Since Amanda had already been labelled as an American slut and a druggie (for apparently smoking some pot), it appears that the jury was willing to convict her on the slimmest of evidence. And apparently their judicial system works opposite of ours: You are not considered "innocent until proven guilty" but rather you are considered "guilty until proven innocent". The onus is on the accused to PROVE that they are innocent----otherwise you get hung out to dry.

I guess her parents are appealing the case and with the huge outcry at such a harsh sentence when there's really no solid evidence against her, perhaps the next jury will see the light.

Another point they made was that there were "drugs involved"

but the only drugs that were mentioned was marijuana.

And marijuana just doesn't effect people in that manner.

Only a person who knew nothing about MJ would suggest that it would cause someone to go on a violent rampage.

If we had a real state department intstead of the kiss azz politically correct cowards we have, our state department would demand that this poor girl be released to US authorities or we would send the navy, air force, marines, and army to go and get her.

I don't want to make this sound like it was the poor girl's fault, but any American who gets anywhere near drugs when in a foreign country is totally insane. The horror stories of Americans who have been falsely accused of something because drugs "were involved" is a pretty lengthy list.

This has been big news hear in Seattle (she was a UW student). No one around here has uncovered anything terribly bad any her history. I will admit that many Americans are not good at adapting themselves to the culture of the places they visit. As pointed out above drugs and sex are not viewed the way they are here. In Amsterdam, you can do almost anything. Not true in small town Italy. I think she got a bad deal, I also think she should have been more careful.

I'm sure we got a very even handed look at the evidence or lack thereof from our no-drama-just-the-facts press, here in the United States. Just like we did with 20/20's deep, thorough analysis of the Kelle Jarka case. I'll never understand why that jury was so convinced of his guilt that they only deliberated for 3 hours or so; I only wish they could have seen 20/20 before they made their decision.

I agree with SixofNine we obviously don't have a play by play daily court coverage but only a cut up version given us my the press to examine. I for one have no idea if she was involved in the murder or not, because I don't have much testimony to go by.
