Why do Ex-JWs start celebrating pagan Christmas?

Because it is fun and my kids get so much joy out of it. And I DO realize that the whole it being pagan thing is just another way to control your lives by the old men back in New York. Google wedding rings and pagan origins, and you'll find that they're just as steeped in pagan origins as Christmas is, but for some reason the JW's seem to have no problem with those.

Thanks sacolton! I definitely dont think "God" will strike anyone down by celebrating it

leavingwt, ok i can take that as a good answer lol. Kind of like I dont care its fun.... type of thinking! That's cool. Also do any go one and share the lie of Santa Clause to their little ones? That just seems messed up. This is the expression of most kids when they find out thats a lie..

My kids love Christmas. I'll be taking them to see Santa Claus, soon. I've already had one set of Christmas photos made. I personally celebrated Christmas for the first ten years of my life. I recall how awesome it was.
I've never personally met an adult who was in any way traumatized by the childhood Christmas tradition of Santa Claus (or the Tooth Fairy, or the Easter Bunny).
When my kids have kids, no doubt they'll share the Christmas traditions with them. Like I said, initially, it's great fun!
Halloween is a blast, too. They love dressing up, etc.

Thats about as true as..
"Most kids Cut thier Throat..
When they find out Movies aren`t Real"..

The big mistake you are making is putting all ex-jws into the same basket of belief; and even assuming that the vast majority of ex-jws post on JWN.
It is better to celebrate X-mas then observe the lies the WTS tells about blood transfusions.

I think ex-JW's who celebrate Christmas do so to varying degrees. My own involvement seems to have varied in intensity from year to year (depending on funds, social commitments, time availability to decorate, and my mood.
Ex-JW's realize that the pagan connection has long since been broken - although I think some choose to embrace the true pagan aspect(s).
It helps connect us with the community, looks pretty and feels good - in a clean, moral way.
Merry Christmas!

Heartbreaker
I figure if I told my children about Santa, for what, 7 years and then they found out, OOOOPS, it's really mom and dad!!! They are still way better off than I was for believing I'd have a pet Panda and my own Zebra before I had children myself.
So whats more harmful, lying about a vengeful Jehovah that will decide on a whim whether he loves you, or whether you've loved him and served him enough, and lying about a Paradise, a new system, or a lie of a jolly old man who loves making children happy bringing wrapped shiny presents? You tell me.
And for the record, my children do not think Santa is real, they know it's a Hallmark holiday, and it's all about getting stuff, we've never celebrated, and totally would this year if we could afford to, which we can't. We WILL celebrate next year though, and will have lights, and presents, and a tree, because we CAN, and because it doesn't mean anything pagan or religious to our family, children specifically, and we will not try to tell them Santa is real, but rather the spirit of the story IS real, and it's good. Love your life, love your family, love your friends, have fun.

For me, personally, I've never stopped. My parents used to celebrate until they got sucked into the cancer.
The reasons to celebrate, for me, are that it's a wonderful time to see my family (except for my father as he is JW), share stories, eat some yummy food, get some hugs, catch up on what's happening and generally to feel the love you never get from anywhere else but family. I'm dying to see my neice and nephews. They always make me laugh!
Maybe a more pertinent question would be.... why does the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society use a pagan symbol (a watchtower) as their main symbol?
