Grace, there is always a way if you are a pioneer. We would call at 24-hour stores, gas stations, stop and gos, We also had rvs and bs that started early (one was a woman that worked 12-6 am and studied at 7 am)

I did many times. Looking back it was stupid, but at the time I still had a good time - it was actually more fun then - Peple were inclined to invite us in and offer coffee

To be fair, it depended on who you were grouped with. Some were super cool and would just drive around, go to breakfast and get coffee. Others were Nazi's that apparently felt we should adopt the post office's motto.
These days, if its pouring rain or ridiculously cold to the point of possible physical detriment, I stay home.
On a related note, does anyone remember that Awake or WT picture a few years ago that showed a family in the door to door carrying umbrellas in the rain?
