Recycling at its best, a local forum

I always feel guilty about throwing out large items, and many times you can't so they wind up in the back of the garage waiting for a trip to the dump.

Just recently I found a local forum called free recycle. Everyone posts what they have for free, or what they would like for free. No deliveries, the person who wants it makes arrangements to have it picked up.

I joined on a whim. I am thrilled! Today I got rid of a bunch of 8 foot metal pipes the garbage men wouldn't take and a broken down heavy duty stationary bike. 2 girls who are into metal reclaiming were happy to come get the stuff.

It's a wonderful feeling to get rid of junk and not be adding to a landfill.

I love Freecycle. I've been able to get a glider with an ottoman, a futon bunk bed, a twin mattress , some construction paper and colored pencils, and a nice plaid flannel shirt for my youngest boy. I'm currently on the hunt for a futon mattress.

So MJ, is this everywhere? I think it's the greatest thing ever.

    Everyone should join!

Yeah, pretty much. I first joined up in Indiana but could never get anything cuz I was either too late or the items were too far away. I'm a member of two groups and I'm thinking of joining a couple more close by.

I just looked at your link, it answered my question.

I think its wonderful, and like you if someone is looking for free tvs, cars, etc., I just ignore them.

There seem to be a lot of legit people, and the girls I met were so nice!

All the folks I've met have been really sweet and gracious. Hubby and I plan on giving back to Freecycle when we don't need our stuff anymore. Oh and just recently some folks have been asking for laptops and recieving multiple folks willing to give them up. Amazing.

Thanks for the link to Freecycle, we have been using Habitat for Humanity to donate supplies to.

    restrangled..

At rural dumps we set aside usable items..

Sometimes wrapped in plastic to keep them out of the weather..

When we come back the items are gone and new items are there..

    It`s like a Free 2nd hand store..

MJ, thinking back, I couldn't remember how I found this place, and now realize it was you! I had clicked on your link, signed up, and then was sidetracked by other stuff. Re-clicking on the link you posted jogged my memory......the joys of getting older!

    Thank you so much!
