obviously not in our life time, but i was thinking maybe in a centry from now perhaps? Once the people who were taught creation in school are gone and instead we have people who were taught evoultion instead? When we have perhaps been able to travel further and deeper into space, will people ask where is god?

It does seem in our lifetime that religon has lost its charm... what do you think?

Either religion will disappear or we will.

I guess it all depend on what you classify as religion. But I see the big 3 Christian, Jewish, Islam as eventually fading out in time just like the worship of the Greek gods. I don't think this will happen any time soon but since they are all based on falsehood and ignorance in the same basic mythological figure I think they will all go out of business around the same time. Other religions that are a bit more adaptable than these will probably last longer to a point but as the human species gets more understanding and knowledge accumulates to such a degree that we won't need them as crutches.

Like I said above,, we could become extinct before that time but if we don't I see religion no longer useful as technology increases and we eventually out grow our need for it(religion). I don't see any real lasting future for angry vengeful Deities or make believe imaginary friends perhaps just for children who believe in the tooth fairy or Santa clause but no longer controlling over the adult population as in organized religion where you have to go to church and pay tithes, definately no door to door service.

    Are you kidding?

JWs were just banned in Russia and it's not making big news! So it depends where you're talking about.

At any rate, per the Bible, formal religion represented by the Lamb-Dragon Beast (JWs) and the 666-Beast (trinity-believing Christendom) will both be destroyed rather suddenly in the lake of fire. The circumstance is Russia demonstrates just how a religion can be shut down and its facilities confiscated overnight. We enjoy the practice of religion in free countries but there is no guarantee under extreme circumstances those rights will be abolished. For instance, when martial law is in effect, normal feedoms of assembly or even communication are curtailed or suspended.

But that is just public expression of religion. Perhaps the real question you're asking is will the Bible become obsolete in 100 years? Will people stop believing in a god?

The answer to that is, of course, no. By then the millennium rule of Christ will be underway. But there will be only one religion at that time, whatever form of Christianity under Christ under these new circumstances. The new religion will be worship of God and Christ.

So false religion and corrupted Christianity will definitely disappear, probably when Babylon the Great is destroyed by the UN, which we expect can occur at any time, especially within the next few months leading up to March-May 2010. But how can you stamp out a belief, even if you remove the physical church building and make assembly illegal?

But as a direct response, NO, true religion will never disappear.

I'm with Frankie on this. The big three will be obsolete.

I think that December-time festivity will outlive the religious reasons for the festivity.

It won't die or disappear. It is too much a part of our human experience to ever go away entirely. But I do look forward to when bookstores stop cluttering up my History sections and moves books on religion where they ought to be, mythology. That way talking snakes and giants and supermen with magic hair will feel right at home.

It is not disappearing, however it is transforming.

At first you may not recognize that its the same old same old because it will have a facelift.

Religions have merged into interfaith groups, assumed new corporate identities, and are all tied in to the UN network.

here are a few places you can find the new religions:

    religions for peace . org

    COIEPA

    The Peace Network

    Saferworld

    interfaith relations .org

    International Peace Corps of Religion

    world council churches

according to www. one country .org it states that the Queen is head of the Angelican church. So I cannot imagine that this religion will end anytime soon.

Yes, because religion divides. In fact, anything on the planet, from religion to the PTA, if it divides us from one another, will eventually dissolve. It has to for the survival of man and the planet. We aren't there yet of course, don't know how long it will take, but I definitely feel and see a 'shift' in consciousness with people. The same ol' same ol' is not working and people will get that some day, I'm very optimistic.........wf

Muslim state supported relegion has an advantage over the other religions as far as longevity. This is due to their governments being in large part theocracys.

Judaism is not always about praying to a God who is listening and answering prayers. It is a religion based on traditions and it is changing as the Jewish people evolve in their beliefs. I believe that Jews will be around for many more millenia.
