Here's one:
Staffan Lindeberg, Lund University, Sweden, compared 14 patients on a paleolithic diet with 15 patients on a Mediterranean diet. The first group ate lean meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, root vegetables and nuts. It is worth noting that the second group was eating what would generally be considered to be a healthy diet, consisting of whole grains, low fat dairy products, fruit, vegetables and refined fats.
At the start of the study, both groups consisted of people with type II diabetes and glucose intolerance (their blood sugar rose after eating carbohydrates). At the end of the study, after 12 weeks, this blood sugar rise declined by 36% in the group on the paleolithic diet and by only 7% in the group on the Meditteranean diet.
What can we take away from this study? Well, weight and waist circumference were unaffected by the diet, but the difference in glucose tolerance was markedly improved by the paleolithic diet.
