heh. my aunt used to insist that the washer was eating her socks. Everyone laughed. One day my uncle took the machine apart, and actually found dozens of socks trapped in the space under the agitator!

So yeah. I think I must be feeding the cheap thing too many socks. I shouldn't complain. It's been a real workhorse for many years.

But I really do wonder what the heck always happens to the socks?

You know when you're walking downtown and see a lone dirty sock in the gutter? Or you stop at a rest stop while travelling and there's a sock by the side of the road?

Those are the ones that have escaped and have made their way to freedom.......

I have this problem re socks My previous topic

Doesn't matter how hard I try I always end up with a bag of odd socks I can't for the life of me find their mates. I suspect I might have Gremlins in my washing machine. What can I do? I'm desperate. I dimly recall that if it was a demonic problem I should call on THE NAME but I don't know how many times I should shout Jehovah at my washing machine 7 or 10 ? I remember 7 stood for heavenly completeness and 10 for earthly Like they come from heaven right?but then they got kicked down here and now the little buggers are in my washing machine. I havn't been here long but I've noticed you guys have kept up with the new light. Can you help me. I want to get this right the first time. I don't want to chase them out of my washing machine only to find that they have then moved into my beer fridge. I can live with wearing odd socks but I just gotta keep my beer cold

Soo if you find out what's happening to your socks Mamochan13 Please Please tell me Bob of the odd socks class

Check around for a used appliance place. Washing machines are often discarded when all they need is an inexpensive repair. A lot of people make a living fixing them up and selling them.

The solution to the odd sock problem is simple: buy a bunch of the same kind of sock.

    Mamochan13,

Stick with a good old top loader by Maytag. They run for years and repairs are usually a switcher which are easy to replace yourself. My mom's lasted 25 years repaired twice by my dad, it was still running when they left it after selling their home.

I have Whirlpool's Duet front load washer and dryer. (4 years old) I am not a happy camper. I don't think the clothes come out cleaner at all. There is so little water used, sometimes I have to rerun them because the load doesn't smell clean to me. On top of that you have to use a special soap (DE) from all the major brands. Expensive. If you accidentally put in too much soap it has a"SUDS" warning. It takes 2 hours to finally be completed if that happens.

Most loads take from 50 minutes to an hour to wash. The final straw has been that the "fins" in the washer are plastic and clip on. They have all broken off 3 times. Thankfully I have an extended warranty, but its about to expire. (The repair company doesn't even ask for my address anymore!) These units were 800.00 each.

    Just my 2 cents.

PS: I haven't lost any socks

    r.

You can buy (or make your own!) net bags to put socks and other small clothing items in when you wash them so the washer goes hungry!

I have the dryer apart right now - just back with a new belt - hope that fixes it. I think the belt was stretched - though not that much. Wifey is getting irritated about having to go dry clothes uptown.

SO, I understand the frustration. We too have the grandkids here [down to two now] and that makes the little bugger work harder for sure to earn it's keep.

Good luck. Try the ads and most appliance places sell used items pretty cheap. Never buy new is what I suggest on this type of thing - though used is a bit more hassle [which the merchants are counting on.]

    Jeff
