i always thought i would die and never live forever unless brought back which was a long shot even when i was a good jw. my wife used to always talk about how she looked forward to the new system and never dying. over the last few years, she no longer says that. she nows talks about "paradise" as if she is going to be resurrected into it and always says that she hopes jehovah keeps her in his memory.
The moment you know you will die, too

I knew I was gonna die when I was a teenager (over 30 years ago) because I refused to become a JW. I was ok with that.

Rockme, that's about the age it really hits you that you won't be here forever after all.
Heaven, that was brave of you.

Even as a jw, I never believed that I would live forever without ever seeing death. I thought my jw husband would eventually kill me before Armageddon came.

During the last couple of years that i was in, i often went to sleep wanting to die, and was pissed off each morning i awoke. After i left i often 'cursed god' and waited to die. For many many years i expected to die by 40.
So it was that i came to terms with my mortality. By wanting to die for so long i think i may have short cut the shock of discovering that their is no paradise. I thus came to the conclusion that has served me well, that today is all we have, so make it a good one. Upon learning of so much that is wrong with the WBTS, i have no desire to live forever among such blind people anyway.
Do i want to die? NO. But i know i will one day. Even if it comes too soon, i know that i have been living my best years, my most loved years post JW.

I never though I wasn't going to die.
The expectations of Jebooboo and his cult were always too high for this sinner.
It was a relief to find out that the WT's killer god wasn't real and wasn't going to kill anyone.
The hard part was realising that from now on all of my friends and family were going to believe I was a complete and utter bastard, influenced by Satan the Devil to drag them screaming and kicking into the horrible world of normality.
Cheers
Chris
Favorite music = I'm Normal, Skyhooks
I'm normal yes I'm normal
Normal as anybody can be
I'm normal yes I'm normal
There's no one as normal as me
Well I've had my share of orgys
Young marrieds and gay swingers
Had too many weirdos
Wet nurses and girl singers
Seen me enough blue movies
To last me a lifetime through
And I'm getting pretty desperate
For something new to do
So I'm throwing out my rubber sheets and kinky knee high boots
Going back to holding hands
That's where I got my roots
Throwin' out my dildos and porno magazines
Goin' back to wholesome sex just like it's in my teens
I'm normal yes I'm normal
Normal as anybody can be
I'm normal yes I'm normal
There's no one as normal as me
No one ever just says 'hi'
Or talk about the weather
They all ask me if I'm bi
And into whips 'n leather
There's just too many massage girls
Doin' it for free
And I get that funny feeling
Someone's usin' me
So I'm throwin' out my Spanish Fly
All that Vitamin E
Swallowed enough stupid pills to start a factory
Yes I'm givin' it all up I'm going back to zero
Getting just too tired of being a pornographic hero
I'm normal yes I'm normal
Normal as anybody can be
I'm normal yes I'm normal
There's no one as normal as me -

Hmmm.... I never thought of it that way. I just knew myself, knew I had to be true to myself, and to become a JW would not let me do that. I couldn't live subjugated to anyone. I wanted my husband to be my soulmate and collaborative partner in life, not a dictator. I wanted a life -- MY life. I wanted the freedom to create it as I saw fit. I didn't believe in going door-to-door (it's not in the Bible). Their interpretation of scripture left me in a state of disagreement with them a lot of the time. Their flip-flops left me feeling that they were hypocrites with no clue.
I was very suspicious of a group who used fear to make you tow their line. My Mom used to comment on how I seemed to have a good sense about things even as a child. I wish she had taken more notice of my reasons for not joining. It could have saved our family a lot of heartache.

I still can't believe it. Life feels like a nightmare that I can't wake up from. None of us are getting out of here alive. Sickness, old age, an accident or some other horrid way of dying get closer with each passing day. For all of us. I hope one day I wake up to an alternate reality and this world and life turn out not to be real.
