I like Einstein's vision of "God".

Yet I dream that this non-personal, non-personality God has a divine impulse.

PS - the Nova episodes take their directly inspiration from The Elegant Universe by Greene, at least the first half of which is extremely accessible:

My dad and I traded copies of this book.

    Thanks so much, Sad Emo.

Spirituality, not religion, runs in my blood.

For as long as I can recall, it has been so.

PS: Thanks, also, for the book link, Void.

String theory has one problem....there is no way to experimentally check it!!!!

String theory could possibly have been a theoretical dead end that has been pursued for 30 years!

From the String Theory wiki article at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/String_theory

Two nontechnical books that are critical of string theory:

Not Even Wrong - The Failure of String Theory

"Not even wrong" as in can't be proven or disproven. Mostly seem to hear physicists referring to string theory with a growing sense of frustration.

Aye, that's the hard part of it. Still, time will tell. Some aspects of Relativity took decades to confirm. Perhaps alternative theories can be proposed.

Physics has seemed to hit a brick wall roughly 40-50 years ago. We've been progressing far more slowly since then.

The unified field theory has physicists flummoxed.

    Tee hee hee.

I wonder if the Large Hadron Collider will help move things on - assuming they get it working properly? I did hear it was online now, haven't disappeared down a black hole yet; so far so good!
