this was a favorite way of getting away from the very unloving "loving brothers and sisters". Hide in the toilets, no one can collar you and tell you off. And even better you won't be in amongst a group of people but still feeling so alone... at least you will actauly be alone!

I know of several sisters who did this, purely because they felt so lonely...

    Has anyone else encountered this?

The way to avoid staying in the main hall to hear boring speeches and talks, was for many: toilet, a telephone call, baby is criying...out in the small hall or in the library, go away and come before the meeting was over...... Time is soooo looong at the meetings....

I wasn't allowed to go to the toilet..I was supposed to go before meeting. and if I did go and didn't come out my parents went looking for me.. this was well into my 30's...lol so yeah I would have LOVED to hide.

I wasn't hiding in the bathrooms but several times I overheard elders talking trash about people in there during meetings. They probably didn't realize I was there taking a crap while they were talking.

    1. You should not have flushed the toilet.
    2. Before the meeting, offer that elder a well disguised chocolate flavored laxative as if it were candy.

In our hall you could never escape as the sound was piped into every room toilets included. However, I could hide in the kitchen when breastfeeding and the brothers soon learnt not to pop in for fear of embarrassment.

I'd hide in the toilets or the coat room after the meetings to avoid be accosted by people after the meetings. I hated that fact that Witnesses had absolutely zero sense of personal boundries! I would be petting and stroked like a damn animal, which was especially difficult for me because I hate anyone that isn't my close family or friends to touch me - at all!

At the local assembly, about 3 years leading up to me finally leaving, I would get really distressed and panicy having to listen to talk after talk, so I stopped sitting in the main hall and would sit by myself in the back of the cafe. But that didn't work well because every 15 minutes someone would feel the need to come over and try to 'comfort me' and convince me to come sit with them and I'd have to keep making up excuses.
In the end I just got in the habit of bringing a thick, fluffy coat with me to assemblies. I'd lock myself in one of the upstairs toilets, fold my coat up and go to sleep leaning against the wall for the duration.

I did the same thing. Made many trips to the bathroom and just stayed in there and wondered how much longer I could keep up the charade.
