Elders who step down for little or no reason?

I stepped down after I realised the JW-Cult is a total crock of steaming smelly crap. I could no longer serve in good conscience.

The standard procedure is to get the resignation in writing which is then forwarded to the branch. I'm quite sure they keep that letter in your permanent file. So, everyone has to state a reason. I've actually seen more resignations than removals and the most common reason is "to take care of family". No one can really argue with it so its the perfect excuse. In some cases, its probably true but in other cases (such as mine) there was some skepticism from the BOE. It seems whether its for "sin" or not, that's the automatic assumption from the rank & file. It's all part of the control (punish behavior not condusive to the leaders)

I would say that the ones that have had enough site "burnout" or "family reasons"

Thats what I used - the real reason was I couldnt take it anymore, like many others have commented.

I think it comes down to whether you resign on YOUR terms or THEIR terms.....

    I resigned on MY terms!!

Between the mid 1980s and 2005, I have not seen any hounders stepping down. I saw one getting removed because the other hounders framed him on a bogus fraud charge, and I have seen them move out of the territory. But I have not seen them actually stepping down.

Actually, just going through the formal process of resigning is playing by their rules.

I just quit showing up to anything, meetings, FS, all of it. I did that while I was still a pioneer, 2nd MS conductor, and book study conductor. They came by after about 3 weeks and said they had to remove me because I just quit doing anything.

I never looked back and never went back.

I just told the Circuit Overseer during his weekly visit that I was resigning. I think it was about a month or so later (after taking a nice long vacation in Colorado) that I went to my very last meeting ever.

It took them about 18 months to decide to DF me, after I wrote them a letter saying I not longer wanted to be a JW.

This was in Okla. City just before the Ray Franz/Ed Dunlap scandal - and as far as I know about 50 people left. Only about 5 or 6 were actually DFd over it; I think they wanted to minimize the number of DF letters they had to read on friday nights to minimize the losses.

I didn't know of anyone until after I had left. I heard one pretty strong in da shit stepped down due to psychological problems. I always thought this guy was mental but then again they all are. I knew this guy personally and would have never thunk he would step down.

    Wow, Farkel.....that is AWESOME.

You are right - I never looked at it like that.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall and heard the chatter - whats up with Brother Farkel!

The better choice would have been like yours - walk away with a big giant BIRD out the door!!

Farkel I knew I liked you.

I wish I wish I had had the courage to just walk away

There are those elders that go out on a limb day-in-day-out with sincerity of trying to be a "good elder", meanwhile there is the rest of the body along with their R&F fan club that are at the other end sawing the limb off...When confronted with a situation that was not scripturally based i had enough of the often virulent attacks. Plus I was getting sick of the R&F nutbars that chose to passively oppose you with their head down during your part, refusing to share in your Q &A. Then once you are off the platform they somehow come to life with br Ear Tickler and his "look at me", stupid jokes and elder billy bob bag o' groceries on the step stories.

After I stepped aside I had one of those R&F nutbars (a loopy loonies with the fake bipolar) come up to me and tell me how much she was shocked and surprised and asked what lead up to my decision as she and her husband were so sad....my answer..."you and your family - you robbed me of my joy"

No elder steps aside for little or no reason. it is that most do not accept their reasons for doing so.
