"Is this cedar?" the High Priest calls out, holding the bundle of sticks into the air for presentation.
"Is this cedar?" he repeats the ritual questions of the ceremony. The red heifer is engulfed in a fiery blaze on the altar beside him.
"Is this cedar?" he asks a final time, having received a resounding "yes" from the crowd each time.
The cedar wood, along with two other items, is destined to be thrown into the belly of the red heifer as she burns.
The cedar is a symbol for something. What could it represent? And why must it be destroyed and burned?
