Ok, so I just watched the video and found it very interesting, and a bit upsetting. But...
The video said IndyMac went bust and the FDIC sold IndyMac's troubled assets to OneWest Bank.
Why would anyone buy up a bunch of bad mortgages? Would YOU buy up a bunch of failed mortgages? I suspect a person of business would only buy them up if they figured they could make a profit.
So it seems to me that the government had three options: 1) they could sell the bad mortgages by somehow making the troubled assets into something that someone would BUY (make them profitable) or 2) the government could take over the banks and run them or 3) the government could do nothing at all about these huge bank failures, assuring the complete colapse of our monetary system and probably our country.
All bad options.
But I guess I would take number 1 if I had to choose.
What are the other alternatives?
