"But when you think of it- is it really any particular teaching that makes people not like us?" OK, first of all, Dave, I love JWs. That's why I hate to see the poor bastards manipulated by pompous loveless cowardly fools like yourself. I've heard you speak. There is no love or concern for "the sheep" in your voice. No concern for anything but your holy, blameless organization and your lofty exalted position. I heard you started partaking of the emblems when you were 17. Funny, it's because of guys like you I was persuaded not to partake at almost age 30 - almost twice that age - and then everything just happened to go to hell in my life. Lost my wife and kids. Yepper! Second of all, yes, it IS a particular teaching. Two in particular. Blood and shunning. It is these two homicidal (physical and spiritual, respectively) policies in particular that keep JWs in the "cult" category. And don't give me that bullshit about "JWs being the biggest target of persecution". If it wasn't for freedom of religion in the U.S., YOU WOULD HAVE NO CAREER! JWs face the most persecution in this country from THEIR OWN PEOPLE! Yes, that's right! Guys like you have persecuted me as a JW more than any "worldly" person ever could. I've never had a worldly person threaten me with loss of family. And don't forget that the second biggest source of persecution is YOUR. OWN. LITERATURE. - which you now label as "false propaganda". A lifetime of ass-kissing does not make you a theologian, buster. It makes you a company man. Period. Oh, by the way, the Bible Students may not have been well-liked, but they weren't persecuted in any meaningful way. That started with Rutherford because HE MADE SURE IT HAPPENED.

mimimimi - it seems you fall into the good old trap of looking around in your own church, and the neighbourhood churches, and then assuming from what you see, that the situation is similiar all over the country. That is a no-no.

6 % attendance by the way is way above what it is in most European countries, where it is at 1 to 3 %.

Actuallly Mr Splane, it was the WT's dunderheaded ranting against ALL OTHER CHURCHES during the 30's that probably upset the Catholics in Canada, don't you suppose?

And maybe, just maybe, it was the WT's continuing harangues against ALUMINUM COOKWARE and VACCINATIONS that turned others, including the authorities, against the bible students in the 30's and the JW's in the 40's. Maybe it was the endorsement of radio waves as a cureall?

So GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE and admit that it was the backward ideas and extreme criticism of mainline religions that made the WT a pariah even before transfusion refusal and shunning of sinners.

Old Hippie, you're still in the "Truth", right?

Splane makes you follow his logic and say, Wow! We DO need to just trust Jehovah God (the Organization). Good cult talk!

    Nugget,

I always hated when they used scripture and tried to apply it to modern age. By the way, it is always somebody in an ivory tower telling people on the front lines to have courage. The average JWs are the ones who will suffer but the guys at the top will have their bag packed and ready to run to a secret hiding place somewhere.

    Agonus,

I agree with your post about them saying how 'persecuted' they are when in fact the people in the religion do terrible things to each other. Most people in the 'world' aren't even aware of the JWs. They are a legend in their own minds. The only reason they get any attention from the world is because they have extremist views and deliberately go out of their way to taunt and provoke. I agree with you that if it weren't for freedom of religion in the U.S. this religion would not exist. I consider the religion to be an ungrateful parasite that thrives off a host (wealthy western nation) and could not be tolerated elsewhere.

I am not surprised that the Russian government has no use for them.

This is a horrible talk. Telling that they were not loved before? Before the blood, before the neutrality, before mandatory field circus, they had several false predictions about when the end was coming. They started in 1872 claiming the end was coming in 1874. And, when it didn't, people started hating them for predicting the end when nothing happened. It got even worse in 1879, after they failed by predicting the end coming in 1878. Two consecutive failures, and they are now pushing for a 1914 date. I would say that is what got them hated.

And, why would we have courage today? Protecting pedophiles? Killing--and eating--babies? Downplaying the status of those caught doing the above? How long are reports like these going to end up in the newspapers (especially when they start downplaying those caught by saying they were not baptized or that they were inactive) before people start responding by shooting, pepper spraying, or siccing dogs on the witlesses to protect their children? To go out in field circus despite crap like this is beyond brave--it is downright foolhardy. And, add a few more failed Armageddon prophesies, and that people are seeing the truth about how this cancer started and evolved, you are looking at a recipe for more hatred toward the witlesses than before--all justified.

Which is more than can be said about atheists--at least atheists do not try to coerce people into selling out in the name of God.

It is a pity that the elders in my wife's congo do not apply this counsel from the G B - they would not know how to do it !

"The most important work an elder can do is to encourage."

Take note of how "seared in the conscience" this man and his co-conspirators are.

They are in trouble because of killing off the innocent because of junk interpretations of the Bible (blood transfusion), deliberately wrecking families (enforced shunning) and demonizing other religions. And what is their reaction?

More 'demonization'. More self righteous, self assurance. More stubborn, stiff-necked refusal to be reasonable.

Let them wallow in their long past victories and praise themselves as invincible. This isn't the 20th century and the organization is weak underneath it's monolithic facade. Keep selling off buildings and laying off Bethelites, guys. Keep pushing your luck.....
