Yesterday's Watchtower Study

Yesterday's Watchtower study appears to have revealed a little
    bit of new light.

There is a scripture in Psalm 91:7,8 that speaks about 1000's falling
at your side. You may be familiar with the scripture, since a song
    is based on it.

The last meaningful reference that I could find on this scripture was
from the 1975 WT. At that time, the application was that this
referred to those killed at Armageddon.

It now appears to refer to those who fall away from the truth. So,
yet another scripture gets relegated to the dustbin of figurativeness.
If this keeps up, there will be no literal beliefs left. Maybe Armageddon
itself will soon be spiritual. In fact, maybe it's already happened.

it seemed to me as I was sitting there in the Kingdom Hall spacing out that maybe the WTS is trying to instill some new "catch phrases" for the sheep. The only funny part was when an old timer went off about Harry Potter. I drew a bubble caption around the soldier on page 17 that says "I only saw Harry Potter once!"

Guess they have to do something to account for the "thousands" dropping out of the organization after finding out the facts about the Society, so that it explains to the "sheep" what is going on. More brainwashing. Sad thing is, most listening will just take it as fact and go on without a though, or worse yet, not even think it is a change from the old way of thinking.
You are right tho', it did apply to Armageddon before. Ain't it grand how Jehovah keeps bringing forth the new light to explain things more clearly? Praise Jah you people! Baaaa...Baaa....

    Hi all,

I think Lindy's right about their using the text Ps 91: 7,8 to rationalize the loss of so many publishers in the developed nations.
Also, the whole tenor of it is to reinforce the ``us against them'' delusional paranoia, circling the wagons, when in reality all the JWs elicit from most of the vast non-witness world is mild irritation or a yawn (See my related comments on the earlier ``Persecution'' thread).

Note also the inane comment in the footnote that the 91st Psalm was not ``messianic'' when it was quoted by Satan to Jesus in the temptations of Matthew 4? Okay, it was the Devil's inerpertation, but Jesus saw no need to correct him on the point.

And how about the totally unwarranted partitioning of the application to elveate the so-called ``anointed?'' Nauseating.

Thank you, Room 215. The idea that the psalm applied primarily to the anointed was given without any proof.

I can't believe the way so many millions of people hang on every word that this group of men decide to spout! Brings to mind my dog waiting and hoping for crumbs to fall from my sandwich so he can lick them up. It's so very sad the way so many families and lives either sink or swim due to whatever *new light* these folks eke out to the rank and file.

I also hate the way the writing committee/GB take every single word of the bible literally, and the way that they think that every single scripture has to somehow be applied to NOW.

It's not just me then. You'll all notice that all prophecies now apply "primarily" to the "brothers of Christ", and only marginally if ever to poor us of the "great crowd". Huh. Christ died for them (the memorial talk emphasizes that every year), and only secondarily "us" - trickle down effect of sorts. Everything in the "Christian Greek Scriptures" was written for "spirit-anointed Christians". They've taken claim over all the scriptures; Christ is no longer our mediator but theirs. Now, we first have to look up to them to intercede on our behalf, we poor plebians.

This is nothing but nascent idolatory.

You mean you haven't heard, Running Man? What's wrong with you? You spiritually sleep or something. Armageddon happened already!! In 1975. we've been living in the New World ever since. Good grief... get a grip, man.

Have you ever been a Witness?

    Yes Tee,

A witness from the time I was three years old, up til last year. Actually I am neither DF, nor DA but am one who is fading away. That's why it makes me angry, because my life was one of those affected, as well as my entire families, and my husbands family. Unfortunately our families are still caught up in it.

    Hi all,

Actually, the WT insistence on a literal meaning for the 144,000 of Revelation (one of the most controversial books to make it into the canon) is a sort of round peg they insist on jamming into a square hole; it skews, distorts and vitiates the power of the scriptures, the New Testament in particular.
