I agree, "the Christ" is such a bland expression.

But for the WT, it is intentional.

Jesus and the Christ are 2 completely different things.

Jesus broke the social conventions of the day by eating with sinners; he liberated those who were cast out because of illness by his touching them, signifying social acceptance.

Better for the WT to recommend following the Christ, a cipher, a mythical mantle draped onto the historical Jesus. The Christ is a dramatic figure in the battle between light and darkness. The christ has power to kill, he has the flaming sword of the mouth. How do we follow that?

They are completely separate; the WT does NOT want anyone following the radical social rebellion of Jesus. That might mean hanging out with disfellowshiped ones, performing real charity, it might mean rebelling against the prevailing religious and social authority, the WT.

    Mary -

The passage where Paul asked "The Lord" to remove the thorn is quite clear in context.

The "Lord " spoken of is Jesus. Calling him God is fine as far as I am concerned, but the Witchtower deliberately inserts "Jehovah" into the passage, to camouflage the fact that Paul (LIke Stephen) also prayed to Christ.

As Jesus said "ask anything of me in my name and I shall give it to you.

    AWW Little Sweet Jehoobie.

All upset because billions dont want to throw away their one and only life changing their beliefs at the flick of a switch in the head, or hawking the Witchtower door to bore and following the Gibbering Buddies.

Poor Baby. Maybe if he knew had to end his existence in a two room walk up with no pension, followed by an excruciating death because he cant afford a doctor, he would have done things differently.

(So would the older beth hellites he threw out on the streets)

Maybe knowing the Borg cannot get his will right depresses him... Mwaaaahh!

It's amazing how certain words just give me the creeps now like "joy" I hate that word.

Could be worse. They could have used "happified"!!! In fact, I'm amazed I never saw the phrase "Jehovah, the Happified God!" anywhere in the study article.

Job supposedly proved sinful humans could be faithful. Jesus, that perfect humans could. So the question is settled, right? So why another 2000 years of pain?

That's the $64,000 question that I always wondered about, even when I was a Dub. The standard answer was that He 'was allowing every form of government to prove that mankind can't rule himself.' If that's the case, Armageddon shud have come three days after George Dubya took office. Here we are a decade later and still no Armageddon.

the WT does NOT want anyone following the radical social rebellion of Jesus. That might mean hanging out with disfellowshiped ones, performing real charity, it might mean rebelling against the prevailing religious and social authority, the WT.

Bingo. It's amazing how many Witlesses cannot see the comparison between the Slobbering Body members and the Pharisees of 2,000 years ago.

    Mary,

The standard answer was that He 'was allowing every form of government to prove that mankind can't rule himself.

If that's the case we will have even longer to wait because I think we got long way to go before we've tried "every" form of human government. I guess that type of logic only works on simple minded JW who thinks we tried and tested them all. I'm sure if we don't go extinct new and improved types will come on the scene.

Mary - Thank you. This was indeed a bland emulsified piece of porridge. I know so may JW's who are suffering physically and emotionally who would be looking for an article like this to give meaninfulful guidance. They must read this a fall into even deeper depth of despair.

Thanks Mary.If a J.W. is saved from an earthquake God protected him(perGB).We have free will so why does God get pissed if we worship idols(work, play, etc).I feel sorry for these older people in their 70,80 that believed that they would see or be in the new system by now.Only to see their hopes gone or their loved one gone. However they still follow their idol men in NY.

Maybe they're waiting for this government to form.....

Captain Kirk will be the (new) Great Harlot and Warf can be the Wild Beast that ascends out of the sea.......LOL!

Yep. I know JWs of my parents' generation who still go (because they're not going to give it up at this late date), but who are extremely discouraged and more than a little bitter that all the promises they were told decades ago, are no nearer now then what they were then.

I know so may JW's who are suffering physically and emotionally who would be looking for an article like this to give meaninfulful guidance. They must read this a fall into even deeper depth of despair.

Indeed they do. And if they don't get some joy in their life soon, they'll be told that it's their own fault, end of story. No wonder so many Witnesses suffer from depression and mental issues with this sort of lousy advice being doled out on a daily basis.

You know the more I look at this study article, the more I see the Governing Body coming from a place of joylessness that they themselves are already at and all they can do is offer some infantile like comfort both to themselves and the general JW population. I think things must be getting pretty bad for those old geezers I bet they wish they could hurry up and meet their maker from the sound of this study article.

The quality of these articles can hardly inspire anybody I sense sadness rife through the whole thing,, I'm sure only the most brain dead JW got any type of encourage from it, but those that have been in for the long time must be putting on a false smile and popping antidepressants after going to this WT study.
