I agree, "the Christ" is such a bland expression.
But for the WT, it is intentional.
Jesus and the Christ are 2 completely different things.
Jesus broke the social conventions of the day by eating with sinners; he liberated those who were cast out because of illness by his touching them, signifying social acceptance.
Better for the WT to recommend following the Christ, a cipher, a mythical mantle draped onto the historical Jesus. The Christ is a dramatic figure in the battle between light and darkness. The christ has power to kill, he has the flaming sword of the mouth. How do we follow that?
They are completely separate; the WT does NOT want anyone following the radical social rebellion of Jesus. That might mean hanging out with disfellowshiped ones, performing real charity, it might mean rebelling against the prevailing religious and social authority, the WT.
