In Genesis, the two stories of "The Flood" have been combined into one.

Each story was created by separate groups for their own theological purpose, and with very different attitudes towards God.

I have provided a scan from a book that untangles these two accounts. It is available at:

Interesting. Thanks for posting the link

It seems to me if a person were to pay close attention to J's version, they would have to believe in evolution. How else do you explain all the animals?

    John Doe,

The Bible writers and the main players - including Jesus Christ - were Jews. Even the gentile Luke was a convert to Judaism. The whole of Scripture is Jewish and if we fail to read the Bible through Jewish eyes, we fail to understand Scripture. I will start another Thread in which I shall provide thoughts from a Christian writer.

The manner in which the Jews recorded their stories was typical of the methods employed at that time by their surrounding communities. But we cannot point fingers at them, since today's historians do pretty much the same, colouring not only the past but the present as well.

I hear people all the time say Luke was a gentile, yet I see nothing in the Bible that implies this.

And what a loss that would be.

Thanks again Doug, you do come up with some gems !

    Dear Bluegrass,

I think the assumption that Luke was a Gentile is because his name is a contraction of Lucanus, but that is slim proof indeed, and when we look at his theological ability, it would seem that he was perhaps born a Jew, unless you go along with some of the early church writers who contended that Luke was more of an amanuensis for Paul, and really this is Paul's Gospel. That too seems doubtful.

Thanks again for your research and posting Doug, good stuff,

    Love
