choosing life - You're so right......that's why I never speak anything against the WTS to my family member.....b/c I know he would shun me as an "opposer".....and all communication and a good relationship would END RIGHT THERE.
I just hope and pray ...with the internet...and the lack of love within the Org. ....that he'll someday realize the WTS is NOT what it claims to be.
dobbie - Yes, they twist the scriptures to fit their erroneous doctrine and beliefs. It all sounds correct and good....but nothing could be further from the truth.
I do that too.....try to educate people about the WTS. As soon as my family member started studying.....I, unbeknowst to him, started educating my other family members so they wouldn't get sucked into the cult too.
good for you lavendar, as soon as i mention the shunning by them just for leaving because you don't want to be one anymore, that's usually enough to put people off, they can't believe it!
I was 23 and every person who knew me at the time thought I was nuts. Since it was such a unanimous decision I was convinced I was doing the right thing
It was co-workers that tried to dissuade me--but I was led to believe that they were from Satan. No one that meant anything to me was available to dissuade me, or even to give me an alternative viewpoint--rendering me vulnerable to the cancer in the first place.
My parents tried to warn me... but not too hard. They didn't want me to suffer because of their disaproval.
As some of you mentioned it's set up so that persecution enforces indoctrination. It's just one more win-win situation for the WT - if my family were wholeheartedly supporting my conversion, I would have seen that as a good sign too. Once you're in their claws, outsiders can't really do much except pray that you'll open your eyes.
