Story on ABC news program 20/20 tonight could have very far reaching effects and ramifications for JW's/ Ex- Jw's in regards to family relations in USA.

Good grief - this kid is only 3 years old.

Yes, the father was an idiot to disobey the order, but especially - what on earth did he think he was accomplishing with a 3 year old kid?

I don't think the issue was that the father converted to Judaism. People can change religions as they see fit and it is still his child and he has just as much right as the mom. The judge is supposed to be unbiased. He wasn't.

He was an idiot to pull this stunt but I think he was making a point. And I agree with his point.

Honestly, I can see the JW's modifying their wedding vows to include raising and upbringing children in "Jehovah's Light" to help them win custody arangements.

It comes from parents who see church as cosmically important, as in life saving, rather that a place for community and shared values.

From IDEOLOGICAL minds, not practical ones.

I may be wrong but doesn't the Catholic church have you sign something saying you will raise any children to be catholic?

I don't know if they can enforce it but somewhere I keep thinking they do that.

My daughter converted when she married a Catholic and I could have sworn she signed or said something to that effect.

I'll have to ask her about that.

And as far that program, I saw it listed and wanted to watch it but missed it!..Darn!!!

I remember saying, I can't even believe that actually happened!

Snoozy, who thinks the world is going backwards sometimes..

    O-K, I watched 20/20 last night, but missed the first 15 - 20 minutes...

However, the story that dominated the program certainly cast the issues and problems of the little 3-year-old Catholic/Jewish girl into the background...

The main story was about CHILD SACRIFICES in Uganda.... !!!!! HORRIFIC!!!!! Seems that some new, bizarre hybrid of the "herb/faith/nature" healers' religion has arisen, in which children in Uganda are being kidnapped and beheaded, so that the head can be sold as a GOOD LUCK CHARM to wealthy businessmen... Some heads are being buried in the foundations of new building complexes; some delivered to the businessmen personally... Disgusting!!!

The program stated it was based on horror movies with the same theme, filmed and shown in Africa... It was my impression that this monstrous new version is strongly influenced by the vicious bloodletting and amputations practiced by the diamond-smuggling terrorists, and ethnic cleansings in many areas of Africa...

But it's also chillingly reminiscent of the European Medieval practice of walling a living thing up alive into the walls of a cathedral as it was being built, supposedly as a "guardian spirit" for the structure - I've read briefly about this practice, but haven't done any deep research into the subject...

    Grotesque... Zid

ziddina ya that Uganda story was horrific.

I had to stop watching after a few minutes of that story cause it gave me a bad queasiness in my stomach.

I know when a story hits me that hard to stop watching it or I want to hurt the ones responsible for it.

But back on the other story I found an update I thought I'd pass along. It really doesn't surprise me about what the

husbands attorney found out about the judge. I figured something was up with the way it was worded about the "jewish

religion only". I will quote it below and also post the link for any to go check out the whole article that would like to.

He argues in his pleadings that he and Rebecca weren't truly Jewish, because they didn't keep a kosher home or observe Sabbath. And Reyes and his lawyer requested, and won, a new judge because the original judge, Edward Jordan, is Jewish. None of this has anything to do with the actual case, but it does get the old blood pressure soaring.

Does what I underlined in the quote above shock anyone about the judge? This is what I figured early on would be the case.

Anyways here is the link to the article I quoted in case anyone wants to read the whole account.

Just thought I'd add also that this thread is from 11 days ago so the story will not appear tonight.

Needed to clear that up in case any might be reading it for the first time. Just was updating the latest I saw on the story.

Thank you for the update Stonewall, interesting info especially about the Jewish Judge.

And also, thank you Jeff for pointing out that it was only a temporary restraint..I noticed that also.

    Snoozy..

Yeesh. The original judge being Jewish would only be a problem if he allowed his religious beliefs to influence his decisions... But I can see why they requested a new judge. Better safe than sorry... Even a hint of judicial prejudice should be avoided... Zid
