I think that both beliefs can be intermingled. For example, we all learned that the Universe could not have been created with the "Bing Bang" because explosions create chaos instead of organization. But what scientific back up does the Society have to deny this theory or to say it can't be possible? I think it could have been possible because this theory points to the idea that a huge explosion materiliazed all the necessary componenets of the Universe. God could have used what came out of the explosion to start creating the stars and planets and everything else. Regarding the evolution, I don't believe in it like the extremists evolutionists do, that we evolved from fishes or reptiles, but I do believe that some species evolve to adapt to their environment.
I'M NEWLY CONVERTED TO SOME ASPECTS OF EVOLUTION, BUT COULD IT BE COMBINED WITH A CREATIVE FORCE?

I read a book last year called "Thank God for Evolution" the author Michael Dowd also has talks up on google video or u-tube not sure which.
I liked the way he described the science as day language and the spiritual side as night language.
YOu might want to check it out

Leaving the belief of an all mighty God is a difficult one. But if we are going to believe a lie we might as well believe in all of them.

Cindi, this is not considered an "extreme" view. It is accepted by the majority of the scientific community as fact.
Life is now: As far as god starting it all, and then letting evolution run its course: I guess we can't know, in my opinion. It may as well have been dog, or the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or abiogenesis, or transpermia, or Your Name Here.

Ever since I saw that progam, " Did Darwin Kill God", form the BBC, I wanted to check out Collins's views and when I found that website is was pleasantly surprise.
You beat me to posting the link :)

Of course, why not? We ourselves, on a micro scale, "create" things...good things, bad things, we make it happen...

Every living thing; elephant, sponge, cabbage, bacterium, pope, evolved from LUCA the Last Universal Common Ancestor. As zoiks said this is not an extreme view, its as certain as the fact that the earth revolves around the sun.
As for how self-replicating stuff got started, the honest answer is science doesn't know. Same goes for how the cosmos got started. Did time and space begin in a singularity before the big bang? (actually nothing exploded it inflated very very quickly) There are many competing hypotheses and lots of progress. Its funny when theists who deny the most mundane and fundamental science appeal to the cutting edge of theoretical physics to try to find support for god.
To insist that god must reside in the gap seems like a short term fix. Its can't be proven or disproven it just doesn't get us anywhere. Methodological naturalism (assuming for practical purposes that the super-natural is not a factor) has got us this far, best plan is to stick with it

Naw, don't assume, lets just go along for the ride...in 10,000 years, if humans last that long, we'll have a better grasp on the matter...

Thanks for all the great suggestions and links.
It is refreshing to be able to view this subject with a more open mind and without the fear of displeasing the God of the Bible (and the GB!!)
