Think how effective talking rocks would be in comparison to gibbering cult members.

Why practice presentations when the angels and holy spirit are there to help?

Oh yes ? Have you ever tried asking the angels for help when the footsteps are approaching the door that you have just knocked on? When your heart is pounding with fear and embarrassment, and you wish that you were anywhere else but there...you need a well rehearsed and automaton set of phrases to get something out of your mouth.....

There was no ministry school until the 1940's; I wonder if they put sample presentations in the KM equivalent then? My mother came into the WTS in the early 50's and said they had 8 scripture sermons they used d2d and they had to make it up themselves...women weren't in the school until 1959.

Didn't they just use the door-to-door record players back then (1930s)? What I remember about this from around the early 1960s was that for males, it was really just a 5 or 6 minute public talk on some subject. Not much to do with door-to-door actually. Then the school conductor would grade your effort. For girls or women, it was a pretend bible study moment - one lady pretending to be a householder and the other the JW. I personally think it was more of a meeting time-filler than a real method of teaching anybody what to do in the door to door. Maybe a public-speaking aid for brothers, and a prep for sisters to get to be on the platform at assemblies.
