Coincidentally, today I received a link to an article [large pdf file] discussing how PowerPoint contributed to (among other things) underestimating the risk of the foam impact on the wing of the space shuttle Columbia on its ill-fated mission. The article can be summarized as "Power Point makes form and presentation more important than content and logic, dulls the audience's critical thinking with its familiar formula, and hides BS behind pretty graphics: thus leading to invalid conclusions". If the WT doesn't let speakers user Power Point, I think they're missing the point!

I used to give a talk that dealt with Daniels dream, 607 etc, I believe it was entitled "Is it time for god to rule the world". In preparing the talk, I figured there was no way to understand that without some visual help, so when I gave the talk I used a chart that I filled in as I progressed with the talk. I never got any hastle for doing it, but it was that talk and the preparation I did for it that allowed me to pick up on the 607-587 problem which eventually allowed me to figure out the whole scam.

    My mistake, it isn't a pdf--just a long web page. Still, have a look-see if you're interested.

I think Jw's activly stay away from anything normal. I think it gives them a kick, a sense of being specail to be abnormal as possible.

Welcome to the board Nephilam! Might be my imagenation but your style of expressing yourself sounds exactly like a brother i used to know in London, if that is you ( with the legs so long they needed to have trousers made for them) then double welcome!

It has been getting worse. Back when I was in the cancer, I would see these graphics occasionally. They also had slide shows on a couple of occasions, and we were allowed to actually incorporate personal experiences and observations into comments. But now, it is all sterile. Comments in the words of the paragraph, very few new graphics, and no more visual stimulation are signs that they want to repeat the information instead of integrating it. And, you hear the same crap repeatedly every year.

No wonder what sounded so stimulating when you first heard it is now boring.

When I gave Public talks I was very midful of how boring they can be, so filled them with charts and other visual stuff. I also always got off the platform at least 5 mins. under time, when it was 55 mins I was off at 50, when it was reduced to 45 mins, I was off at 40 or less, I was never criticised for that !

Could the reason be that as another poster has hinted, you may actually remember what was said if PPT was used, and so the endless repetition would become more obvious ?

If you're IN and you like giving talks and you want to use/see visual aids, join a sign language congregation. It's a big fad in the USA right now.

Sorry BUT I saw an origainal book in my Kingdumb Hell and it was definitely "WILL" never die,

WILL WILL WILL WILL WILL WILL.

I have heard Witlesses claim forgery or photshop so often now, I am convinced they cannot recognize true, even if it stands in front of them and smacks them in the mouth.

In my last congregation the PO gave the special talk with a Powerpoint presentation. I must admit that I found it a lot better than "normal" talks probably as the visuals helped keep my attention.

It was either in 2006 or 2007 in South Wales, UK.
