Awake! A simple way to show the flip-flopping....

This was the stated purpose of Awake! before the generation-change of 1995....

    Why Awake! is published.
Awake! is for the enlightenment of the entire family. It shows how to cope with today's problems. It reports the news, tells about people in many lands, examines religion and science. But it does more. It probes beneath the surface and points to the real meaning behind current events, yet it always stays politically neutral and does not exalt one race over another.

Most importantly, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away.

    From current post-1995 Awake! magazines......

Thanks Quillsky, I think you realize that this has been dealt with before but it may well be that there are many new to this board that haven't seen it, and it is always good to have a clear record of something that can be searched for at a later date.

Thanks, brilliant!! No harm in bumping up straightforward tools for new folks here to help their stuck family members to see the light. Especially since the new Overlap of Generations ® doctrine is about to hit the fan.

I believe that most current JW's don't care much about "deep" teachings..... even 607 goes over most people's heads. But "this generation will by no means pass away....." --- well, even as kids that was drummed into us. So I hope this reminder helps someone somewhere.

Of more significance is the phrase "the Creator's promise".

So, did Jehovah promise that "the generation that saw the events of 1914 would not pass away before a peaceful & secure world" or didn't he?

Either Jehovah lied or the magazine publishers lied - who was it?

On what basis would you put trust in them regarding anything else they said?

They can't be trusted at all. We know this. But the rank and file dub has been programmed to view flip flops as "light getting brighter" and so the actual doctrinal changes usually have no effect on them.

However, this doesn't make bringing out flip-flops useless. They DO work on a percentage of dubs, of whatever size, and that is valuable.

More importantly, IMO, the language the borg uses is always about controlling the rank and file dubs. Always. And if you can use a past flip-flop to demonstrate the mass effect of mind-control on the group members, you can sometimes get through to them.

For example, a family member of mine was absolutely shocked to learn that the borg used to support blood transfusions and only instituted the ban to further isolate the members from society, solidifying borg control.

They don't look at it that way. They look at it like a parent promising to take a kid to the park tomorrow. If the parent has to work late or gets sick, they didn't LIE, they just had to update the plans. The "light" got brighter.

Nevermind that that, pretty much other than "Trinity bad" and 144K, Witnesses from the 30's would be DF'ed for beleive just about anything they beleived back then. If that is light getting brighter, they must have been totally in the dark then. I also strongly suspect we'll be able to say the same thing about them 25 years from now.

I've said it on here several times before, and I'll say it again. Get the 1984 Bound Volume for the Awake! magazine. NEVER dispose of it. Pull it out, show JW's the mission statement above, ala "Most importantly, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away."

Then, flip back through some of the issue covers. There is pure CULT GOLD in that 1984 Bound Volume. The covers that really leap out at you are from about March through May, as they deal with 1914, The Generation, and Prophecy. Remember, this is only 26 years ago.....not some old-time Russell writings like The Finished Mystery. If you flip through the May one I believe, you'll really get a feel for how they are pushing the IMMENANT end to this system of things.

I was 4 when these magazines were published and studied, but I recall CLEARLY how hyped and important they were. Back then, the 1914 Generation teaching was time sensative PROOF the end was near, and it kept everyone preaching at a near record pace. This sense of urgency all died in 1995, and has NOT returned.
