Not something thats really done in the UK but I wonder how an Ann Summers party would go down!

We had zero tolerance for such "parties" when I was an elder - they were viewed as an exploitation of the Christian brotherhood

How about the "eye reader" party, where everyone came out buying hundreds of dollars of herbs because the eye reader found saw bad things in their irises! The kicker was when an eye-reader said that brown-eyed people had brown eyes because their bodies didn't process toxins. In other words, brown eyed people were full of shit! I still laugh my a** off at that; and all those JDUBs who bought hundreds of dollars of herbs from this wacky sister. There's a butt for every seat, I suppose.

My wife, the hardcore JW that she is, quit accepting and going to all these invites for just the reasons stated. The only times she was invited anywhere was if someone was having a Mary Kay or elephant gift swaping party, or a baby shower.

How was such a rule enforced?
What one did in the privacy of their home...and how they invited people through the mail or by phone...was their business, not the elders. Sisters had Tupperware and Pampered Chef type parties. They just couldn't go around inviting the entire KH by handing out invites at the KH.
I avoided all the MLM deals out there... I didn't like how you had to push yourself on family and friends to make it work (funny how I could see thru that but not the cult of JWs, go figure). But the parties operated differently and were quite popular amongst the sisters. They just had to be discreet in how they invited other sisters.

as a child i can remember going to the clothes parties, tupperware parties and avon, anne summers would have been a whole lot more fun...
we had cupboards full of tupperware, that stuff will probably outlive the borgs promises and most of its members and still be twice as useful, i smile when i see 30+ year old tupperware donated to the charity shop, if nothing else it was at least good quality for its even then high prices.
i think the sellers depended on the jw guilt angle to get the money. who could help just buying a plastic cook rice tub you were never going to use or yet another cake storer come server for the cakes you didnt make if it meant someone was going to be able to make their precious pioneering hours that month.
even the spiritually weak could get an invite to those.

Oh the Noni juice...
That was a little fad that swept the halls for a time. Seriously, people....drink pomegranate juice if you want more vitamin C, you really don't have to get sucked into this stuff.

we had a sister who had a relative that was a paramedic in town.
One night she invited many of the younger people from the hall over to her house and had a CPR/first aid party.
From what I heard, it was great ! the younger people learned a skill, and they didn't feel pressured to buy anything.
