I think if someone is suffering a lot of pain with a prognosis of imminent death, an overdose of painkiller is probably ok.
Not a great option in any other case I can think of.

I think it depends on your situation. Sue Rodriguez would not agree. She had ALS. There is no cure. She took her own life with a doctor assisted suicide on February 12, 1994.
