What's the Deal On Deactivating?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this question. It just doesn't seem like one for the technical support.

    Dumb question? --

What's the big deal having your registration to post "deactivated" on this board?

Doesn't a person just delete themself by not posting to the forum? Or is there something I don't understand about how this forum program works. I see 'bttt' in posts that don't go 'back to the top'. I see people requesting to be 'deleted' who keep posting. Is there something of benefit to being un-registered, or is it just another ploy to get attention and have people beg ya to stay?

    Howdy bud,

Seeing the amount of my posts (I've been here longer than dirt) - I've not asked to be deleted, account de-activated, whatever.

It would seem logical that if a person didn't want to post anymore....they just wouldn't post. Lots of people do that, and come & go as they please. It is a free place, afterall.

There are scores of posters who *used* to post - check under members and try to identify many of these posters?

As for why? Who knows. But when a poster comes back for a visit (such as my all time favorite aussie - Zep)...it's such fun!

The deactivation thing was to indicate that a poster had been removed.

Some people decide they want to 'leave' and be seen to have left instead of just not posting.

To be honest, unless people make a fuss about it, I useually ignore requests as it doesn't really alter anything other than put a little entry under their name.

    That's what I thought. Thanks.

There seem to be quite a few megalomaniacs here, and as many willing to feed them.

Sorry, its none of my business.

Are you saying that when a person's account is deactivated - there is a little entry under their name....but they can still post?

Maybe they just can't control themselves when it comes to posting...

No, it should stop them posting too.

I meant it along the lines of there being only a semantic difference between someone choosing not to post and not being allowed to post after choosing not to post.

Bud, You seem to be doing a bit of attention seeking yourself. Megalomaniac or just plain self assured, it takes a special quality to extracte ones self from a cult. There are many left inside the WTS who would like to get out but lack the guts to stand up and be counted.

I would never announce I'm leaving a forum, coz I'm sure no one would give a rats ass. Maybe it's a case of 'you get out what you put in'. I don't put much in here, so no one would care if I left. I'm realistic.

You seem somewhat aggressive. Have you got something specific you want to get off your chest?

    o poo Marilyn,

I'd give a rat's ass coz I like your posts. I just wouldn't notice because I don't see your posts much. I'm realistic too.

Either way, as Simon brought out, it's semantics - because the control to post remains in the power of the poster.

    Perhaps bud's new?
