Most JW growth is in the developing world. The western world is pretty much plateauing and any increase is due to reproduction not recruitment.

The overall number of JWs continues to grow - it's over 7 million now.

There are a lot of reasons for that, but primarily is due to:

-- The JW message provides hope (albeit false hope) to many many of the world's most retched poor in 3rd world countries

-- Those countries are where JWs spend the most effort, sending missionaries and "need-greaters"

-- Also, there are tens of millions of 3rd world immigrants in 1st world countries - they continue to be retchedly poor, although in better surroundings. JWs in wealthy countries concentrate their efforts on recruiting them as well

-- We are currently in the midst of a global economic crisis that has no end in sight. People who would otherwise ignore the JW message are increasingly desperate, and a message of "paradise soon" is a life-preserver that some clutch at.

When the economic situation stabilizes, and the internet continues to be more available even in poorer countries, the growth will level off, and eventually begin a slow decline. I give it 4-8 more years.

Among English speaking US congregations, the numbers are falling.

Among Spanish speaking US congregations, the numbers are going up.

Relative to population growth, I'd say they aren't doing well at all.

The born-ins are needed to keep the numbers where they are now - pathetic!

There are a lot of graphs and statistics for the growth at http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/statistics.php

The number of JWs is still growing, but at less than half the rate it grew in the early 1990s.

Witnesses are somewhat middle of the road in growth rates compared to other religions. Many of the main stream religions are loosing numbers, but some of the evangelical religions are growing faster than JWs. Muslims apparently are the fastest growing religious tenant at the moment. It really does not indicate anything. The Watchtower Society has experience periods of rapid growth and then decreases several times, particularly around periods of time that they predicted the end would come like 1914, 1925 and 1975.

The growth is mostly amongst the poorer areas. For example, I have embedded a graph of the number of baptisms in Australia, which shows a dramatic decline.

shouldnt the number of "annointed be decreasing ! if what they taught was "the truth" ?

Truth never had anything to do with JW's, Wait to see the numbers of partakers this year!
