They really blew it with Michael Jackson.

Hey did any of you catch the CBS special last night with MJ? An acknowledgement of his 30 years in the business. It was pretty good.

While watching, I couldn't help but notice all of the THOUSANDS of screaming fans, some of whom were crying, over Michael.

The WBTS really blew it when they DF'd him. Just think of how many millions of dollars MJ could have led the Society's way. But NOOOOOO some dumb ass had to get offended at his Thriller video, and that was the beginning of the end.

Fortunately for MJ, during that era of the WBTS the GB and local Elder body were gunnin' for ya if you did one thing wrong.

Not like today, where they're afraid to even acknowledge the Williams sisters and their flag-draping antics. They've got no balls today with celebrity JWs.

NAH, back then during the late 80's and early 90's all you heard about at the district assemblies was the evil of cable TV and MTV.

Lucky for MJ, he got out in time.

Well, technically Michael Jackson DA'd himself in the mid-80's. But you're right, he was pushed into it by endless Watchtower harrassment, er, counselling regarding the Thriller video, which set new standards in the music video industry, but was admittedly creepy to watch.

So now it seems like the Watchtower now covers its eyes and extends its hand to accept donations from its wealthier members, at least those who still are around! I guess they have learned on which side their bread is buttered!

I thought the most disturbing part of the Michael Jackson special, what little I saw of it, was the physical condition of Witney Houston. She looks like a walking crack pipe.

Interestingly enough, in a recent issue of TVGuide Michael Jackson was interviewed and he said he is STILL a JW.

He claimed to put on makeup, dress in a suit, and even having pioneered on a few occasions in recent months. He also stated he would be raising his children as JW. Im not making this up. I hope someone else read the TVGuide interview to support me here. Unfortunately like most other people I toss the issue when the week is out. :D

As for the Williams tennis phenoms, I doubt Venus is still affiliated. Her face was plastered all over the Enquirer for having a hot, steamy relationship/engagement to her Italian bodyguard. Last I checked fornication was still grounds for DF, and the pictures showed them getting pretty freaky! LOL

I just realized.. the STRANGEST celebrity personalities are the ones who have been affiliated with JW. Coincidence? LOL
    Think about it...

    - Michael Jackson (granted he is a pop icon, but he is just plain weird)
    - Venus + Serena Williams (easily the most controversial female tennis players of the generation)
    - Prince (self-explanatory)
    More?

That interview in TV Guide was proven to be taken from OTHER legitimate interviews. He did NOT grant TV GUIDE an interview. (UMMMM hello look who we're talking about here )

The point I was making is if they hadn't been so rabid in their hatred of all things new, who knows how many people MJ could have influenced to become a JW or at least view them favorably?

Why would the Watchtower want to be associated in any way with Michael Jackson? He is a great entertainer, but he obviously has many problems which make him a PR nightmare. He's addicted to plastic surgery and has screwed up his face, he bleached his skin white, he has a reputation as a pedophile, and that's just for starters.

Why would an uptight religious cult want to be associated with him in any way whatsover? The liability far outweighs any financial gain.

    Hi all,

Believe me, the bigwigs at Bethel looked the other way a long time when it came to Michael Jackson. He was reported to be a big contributor, and even the super-demonic thriller got him little more than a slap on the wrist, and a ``naughty, naughty'' acknowledgement in Awake!, if I remember correctly, along with some sort of insipid ``mea culpa'' CYA statement from him. Tons of dollars will buy an awful lot of forbearance, it seems.

It was only when the hue and cry became unbearable did the boys in Brooklyn pull the trigger.

I wonder if any rank and file were beaten, shunned or df'd for even watching the video.

Don't think it was the thriller video as much as the grabbing of his crouch all the time problem. He's obsessed with his genitals.
