Captures the memorial experience very well - good post besty.

Not wanting to hold the emblems is an unusual angle and it's true that it is considered compulsary to observe. First-timers at the KH are expected to have understood enough from the talk to pass the emblems. As I recal kids at a very young age participate by touching the emblems as they pass - and are not really likely to be able to comprehend what it means. So why isn't one able to politely refuse to observe without raising serious questions in the minds of surrounding JW's?

    besty, that was really intriguing.

I have never been to one of these ceremonies. What is said in the "talk" that causes even first time "observers" (I did not say participants) to just pass the wine and bread along instead of eating? Are these words posted anywhere?

    > So when the greeters spotted me at the door, I was pegged: either a visiting Witness (rare) or an apostate (scare). I casually mentioned the name of my congregation, plus I had the new song book. At least I relieved their tension.

And THAT is how you know it's a cult. You can't even walk in the door without being interrogated regarding who you are and why you are there.

I challenge you to find the same thing happen at a normal church. Everyone is welcome in all of the other normal churches... even for Mass and Christmas Midnight Mass. Anyone can walk in without anyone giving it a second thought.
