    Hello Marco,

Jesus did not sin therefore no ransom is required.

    Hebrews 4:14-15 (New International Version)

14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.

1 Peter 2:22 (New International Version)

    22 "He committed no sin,
and no deceit was found in his mouth."

1 John 3:5 (New International Version)

5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin.

    Hebrews 7:26 (New International Version)

26 Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.

    John 8:46 (New International Version)

46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me?

    John 14:30 (New International Version)

30 I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me

    Blessings,

    Stephen

    I asked this question about 20 years ago whilst having a study with a PO;

he took real offence at the question and never showed up again!

Perhaps it was the way I asked it? Any more responses?

Funny response from the PO, didn't he know Bible Student and JW theology, Russel had his views spelled out in Vol. V and the Society spells out their views in the old Aid Bk..

    That's a great question!

I always found it odd that the JWs describe Jesus as 'the perfect man' and that the Bible said he was 'without sin'.

Uuuuhhh... oh really? Where do you get that from?

Let's see... first of all, he was born from an imperfect woman; a woman that inherited a legacy of sin, so therefore, he IS a sinner -- there is no choice in this matter. Next, he broke one of the 10 commandments. Thirdly, he doubted his heavenly Father during his crucifixion.

These are not the characteristics of someone 'perfect' and 'without sin'. These are characteristics of being human.

Official JW stance is that Jehovah, by means of Jesus, paid the ransom....to himself!

Go figure that one out and get back to me when it makes sense.

True, he was born from a woman who is a sinner, but his life didn't spring from her.

Next, he broke one of the 10 commandments. Thirdly, he doubted his heavenly Father during his crucifixion.

It was He who gave the commandments, therefore, strictly speaking, He wasn't subjected to them. He did this to teach an object lesson: Mercy trumps law. His Father hid His face from Him during those three hours of darkness; it wasn't doubt, it was the very human fear of abandonment.

These are not the characteristics of someone 'perfect' and 'without sin'. These are characteristics of being human.

A perfect human, but human, nonetheless.

Couldn't the Loving Father just forgive us, without having his only-begotten son die that way? Oh, by the way, he didn't die! So, was the ransom paid at all?

Is this similar in any way to the scapegoat thing? An innocent being killed for the sins of others? Apparently Jehovah is used to that kind of ransom?
