Earthquakes, Persecution: I Hate Self-Fulfilling Prophecy

When I heard that another earthquake happened, this one in Baja California, I didn't want to mention it to the wife.
Apparently, a series of earthquakes has recently happened with one possibly aiding to trigger the next. But that doesn't change the fact that we always have earthquakes from time-to-time. WTS doesn't even print new lies about them being a sign of the last days because statistics show that they haven't increased. But that doesn't stop any adult JW's from remembering their training.

The wife finally heard about the quake and just kind of stopped and said "Hmmmm......"

Saying anything negative about the JW's, that fulfills the predicted "persecution" from Satan's world. Don't they realize that people oppose the ridiculous cults like Scientology, the Moonies, Mormons, and the JW's? Is that "persecution" when concerned family don't want someone to become a Scientologist?

A couple of women ahead of us at the airport were talking about Tiger Woods and I started talking to the wife about how those women were acting as if having a beautiful wife should have been enough for Tiger. They tied that in with Christie Brinkley's husband cheating on her. I told the wife that while cheating is wrong, a couple should work out their problems before it reaches that point, it isn't as simple as having a beautiful wife and not being satisfied. Immediately, I realized I was talking to a JW and she was just hearing me "defend a cheater." She just starts in on how cheating is wrong wrong wrong. I didn't disagree with that, but it didn't matter what I said. I was now a truth-leaver that was letting his morals slip. All I was trying to say was that beauty isn't the issue keeping marriages together.

Just sharing my rant with you all.

I didn't tell my husband about the earthquake in California either. I don't know if he's aware of it yet. He hasn't said anything.

When I heard about yet another earthquake my heart sank - this gives ammunition to the die-hards and it also reinforces the faith of those who are doubting.

We can look at at these things from the outside and see the rationality of statistics, but the average dub will start to see another "sign of the conclusion of the system of things".

I am sure nothing will be printed, but you can bet you bottom dollar the earthquakes of 2010 will be mentioned verbally in the upcoming District Conventions.

You know you should have known better than to say that to your wife about cheating! Boy did you step in it. I am a woman and I understand the whole beautiful wife thing not guaranteeing fidelity. I don't know what to tell you to make your situation better. Flowers, or jewelry maybe? Do what I've done and claim confusion due to exhaustion or hypoglycemia.

OTWO- Good thread. Yeah, I just got done explaining to my JW daughter last week that the only reason we KNOW about all the earthquakes is due to modern communications, i.e., T.V. the internet- and that centuries ago- nobody knew WHAT was happening on the other side of the world. Maybe we should shoot the messenger, eh ? The internet, T.V. ? Nope. Don't want to do that- then ex-JW's wouldn't be helped with information to make their minds free again. All we can do with JW relatives is show authentic love and point them to think logically.

I know you tried to do that with your wife on the Tiger Woods thing - but to JW's adultery is adultery anyway you slice it. LOL ! Serenity Now's suggestion is a good one- take your wife out to a nice dinner or something > I know you'll handle it appropriately bro- you're a smart guy

You might mention to your wife that the Dr. Lucy Jones, the top seismologist at Cal Tech/USGS stated the only thing unusual about the earthquake situation is how quiet it has been the past 15 years! She said that in an interview on the news yesterday...
