John Doe. The Pope never himself "abused children". The method of dealing with the mainly post pubescent molesters was to send them to psychiatrists which was a compassionate way of trying to free perverts from their compulsions. Unfortunately, this approach didn't work in all cases despite medical assurances from the doctors their patients had "recovered" The remark has to do with the "wilful sexual abuse" of children because the Pope has committed no crime in this respect. So why don't we arrest the Minister for Education here in Britain becuase some teachers "got away with it"?
Legal action against the Pope?

If the pope knew of crimes and did not report them he is guilty of aiding and abetting.

The difference is that if the Minister for Education signed a document that effectively swept sex abuse under the carpet, s/he would just as guilty as the Pope is.

From what I understand, back in the 70's and 80's, this was the agreed upon way of dealing with pederasts (these priests were pederasts, not pedophiles) in the psychiatric community. Benedict's itinerary is to visit the UK in September. It will be interesting to see what happens.

No honest person agrees with this statement.
