That's the "special talk" for this spring.

It's the same regurgitated crap every spring, to try and further rope in those who attended the Memorial. I'm not sure why they keep up the tradition; I've NEVER seen it work.

You right, it never works. I did the special talk three years ago, and I remember looking out at the audience, and it was pretty much the exact same audience I see every Sunday, and ever Tuesday night. For the past couple years, the attendance has been typical of any other random meeting. I'd love to ask the powers that be in NY, what do they hope to accomplish with these campaigns?

On the one hand, I think they think it "re-energizes" the faithful; "Oooh, a special talk / campaign / speaker / tract ! The end must be close!"

But on the other hand, with "special" events occurring every other month or so, as they have been over the past few years, even the zealots are yawning.

It's like my mother-in-law's (not the sharpest tool in the shed) idea for solving the economic crisis: "Why don't they just print more money?"

I shudder to think so, but maybe the GB is just dumb enough to think "If 1 'special' talk / campaign / tract / magazine is good, then a dozen must be great!"

Thanks for putting this out there, yknot and thanks to your anonymous friend for providing it.

As others have stated, the "special" talk is really just another public talk. Back when I was in, I considered the "special" talk to be just another talk. In fact, it's typically more basic and more bland than your average public talk (and that's saying something).

As a whole, it looks like this is another snoozer. I like the admonition at the beginning for the speaker not to speculate. That's too funny.

Notwithstanding the dry/bland nature of the talk as a whole, I think the following sentence in the outline might pique the interest of some JWs: "We have reached the time when significant developments and earthshaking events prophesied in the Bible are to occur." Now, this statement is purposely vague, but I could see Witnesses getting excited by this. The "spiritually strong" ones who enjoy researching the "deeper" things will over-analyze the "we have reached the time" language. I can imagine these JWs talking in the car group "In all my 40/50/whatever years in The Truth, I've never heard the FDS say 'we have reached the time...' That means the Great Tribulation is practically here." But, just like the generations (pun intended) of JWs who came before them, they'll be wrong.

I think I remember giving that talk! What year was that originated?

I'm sure you did, I know I had a talk about peace and security, it's recycled stuff.

The Watchtower Corporation can put on their bragging list this little tidbit:

"The first Corporation ever to recycle it's own trash"

When did they cut the outlines down to 30 minutes? What was the reason? I remember no problem with time as long as the WT study started an hour later.

I have a list of all talks from Outline-001to Outline 168.

    After that I am missing 169, 170, 171, 172, (have 173), 174, 175 and anything after 176

    Anyone got those?

I don't remember exactly but it seems like around three years since the public talk was reduced to 30 minutes. The reason was to cut out any "free" time for the brother to wander from the outline and do any independent real teaching. Rather than have a 5-7 minute intro, they're supposed to keep them 2 or 3 minutes max. Rather than explain what things mean in any sort of practical way, they are supposed to stick to the points on the outline. The new talk outlines have been 30 minutes long but none of the old ones (150+ of them) have been changed; the brothers have to squeeze as much of the 45 minute outline into the 30 minutes as possible. There is no time to cover it all, therefore there is no possible way he can add anything.

Geez, my eyes were glazing over just reading the outline. This is indeed the same crap I used to hear when I attended. The only difference is the audience only has to suffer through this for 30 mins. instead of the 45 mins. from the days when I attended .

The title is so JW-centric I could have told you it was a JW talk title or magazine/ book title just from the buzzwords and sentence construction. Obviously, the "peace and security" is the buzzword, but even as a JW I would be amused by the statement followed by the one word question titles. This thread should be titled Attending the Special Talk- Why?

I routinely made them suffer anywhere from 50-70 minutes.
