The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor that I ran said that my computer would only go up to the 32 bit level. My computer has Vista on it. It said that I could support Windows 7 Premium or Ultimate. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-vista-to-windows-7
Thanks for the information guys. Now, I'll have to marinate in it and consider the cost/options. That printer info has got me worried. hmmmmmmm *scratches head*
How do you upgrade to a 64 bit? Take it in and have them install more RAM or something?

Your processor will need to be able to support 64-bit code. Unless you're planning to use apps that require many GB of RAM, the 64-bit option may not be right for you.

If you don't have a 64 bit processor you can't upgrade to the 64 bit version of Windows. This applies to any version of Windows.

My 2 cents worth: the retail home edition of Windows 7 is a whole lot better than the OEM version of XP I was running. Getting rid of all the junk the OEM version loads on the system makes an amazing difference, you won't believe how many unwanted "helpful" things they set to start up every time you boot up. For example, right now there are just 14 processes running on this system (press ctrl-alt-esc and select the "processes" tab to see), compared to dozens with the OEM version of XP I was running last year.
If you're going to spend the money on something new, go for Windows 7 and not Vista. Windows 7 is newer and will be supported longer than Vista will, and all reports I've seen says it runs much better.

If you mean an OEM version bastardized by some system manufacturer, then yes. But a normal OEM version does not load anything extra. The only difference between OEM and retail is the licensing.

I've been using Windows 7 on multiple PCs since it was released. It works very well.

Just upgraded from Vista to Win7, makes Vista look like a turd.
Did a complete replacement of files, didn't want of Vista's shit to remain.
