Then 1 Thessalonians 5 read about 'Peace and security'. The speakers instructed not to embellish the statements.

'Noble sentiments' was mentioned about the UN charter but no criticism.

Followed by the need for God's Kingdom.

It sounded more like an advert for the UN to me. Did anyone else hear it? What did you think? What could the UN have agreed to for the WTBTS to do this?

Interesting. I did not attend but will check back later.

I remember thinking similarly when reading an Awake article about the UN about 15 or 20 years ago. Sounded like it could be presented as a show of support. Still shocked when just 5 years ago I learned about their NGO status.

And all those years we crossed the street instead of using the sidewalk in front of the YMCA out of concern that someone would see us and think we were maybe using their facilities.

Did they read the whole charter or just the preamble? The charter is quite long. NGOs had to support these issues and the highlighted one would have violated the WTS stated position not to support men's wars.

    PREAMBLE

WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS DETERMINED

    • to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and
    • to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and
    • to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and
    • to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom,
    AND FOR THESE ENDS

    • to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours, and
    • to unite our strength to maintain international peace and security, and
    • to ensure, by the acceptance of principles and the institution of methods, that armed force shall not be used, save in the common interest, and
    • to employ international machinery for the promotion of the economic and social advancement of all peoples,
HAVE RESOLVED TO COMBINE OUR EFFORTS TO ACCOMPLISH THESE AIMS

Accordingly, our respective Governments, through representatives assembled in the city of San Francisco, who have exhibited their full powers found to be in good and due form, have agreed to the present Charter of the United Nations and do hereby establish an international organization to be known as the United Nations.

Applying rational logic, there were more than likely many proclamations of peace and security handed out by governors and political leaders

    in ancient times in continuance.

But your not suppose to think about these things in a openly logically inspired way when your a JWS.

Your just a ignorant little bird who gullibly and assuringly accepts what mother bird feeds you.

Now is there were something in a effect in bible prophecy that many nations would gather together in unity to

resolve their individual problems in a peaceful and secure manner, that would be something viable.

LOL Cantleave, I was thinking I don't think I can stomach another special talk, but I decided to listen in. I have not long learned about the WT NGO status and had mentioned it to a couple of JW's last week and was met with disbelief. So I am glad I listened in now and am interested to see what their reaction will be. I am just dropping hints in now and again to get them thinking. I have family in I don't want to lose, so I am playing it careful at the moment.

Yes Aude Sapere, I am still very shocked about it. Having been involved in giving such strong talks about it years ago, and in the ministry. It is taking some getting used to this hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy , now there's a true understatement when your talking about the JWS.

Lets face it if the WTS. didn't get caught openly sighing on with the UN in the way the

did, they would still be an NGO with the UN today.

Even big corporations like the WTS. get caught with their pants down once in awhile.

Yes Blondie this is definitely what was read out:

    PREAMBLE

WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS DETERMINED

    • to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and

I have a short-term memory problem. I know for sure all the above including the highlighted sentence was read out, but don't remember that last sentence.
