Were You Surprised That The "World" Was Not As Bad As The Watchtower Claimed?

Frankly, I could never figure out why they were always demonizing perfectly nice "wordly" people. Since I was dragged into the JWs at the ripe old age of 12, I actually knew there were nice people out there.

It was my mother who thought the world was shit and wanted to believe it wasn't worth the effort. But, that was because she viewed it through the eyes of her depression and anxiety, but I didn't realize that until much later, of course.

mindmelda - this reminds me of my mom. Same issues with anxiety and depression. Interestingly enough she would blame her irregularity in the congregation on the corruption within the congregation yet insist that we remain a part of it. Same with my dad. We're a big family of jws on both sides and all of my family thinks they have a real personal relationship with jehovah in spite of the problems in the organization. They will be the ones to see the congregation cleaned out.

So yeah again I didn't think the world was so bad at all........lol

No, because most of my friends were non-JW's anyway. I just thought JW's were a little better, not vastly superior. It never crossed my mind that a good worldly person was bad, just a little incomplete. And I hardly talked about or thought about religion when with friends (even JW ones). Meetings and field service were seperate from other things I did mentally. Guess I never had the makeup of a great Witness .
