They do not view themselves as just Jehovah's Witnesses but have been promoted to 'Jehovah's People.'

Minimus - this is such an important upgrade that I am surprised you even have to ask why they take themselves soooooooooo serious.

Hubris is a better word than bravado. But I think maybe there is both.

Years ago it was explained to me that all the other religions still held their centuries old traditions of men and false teachings. But, we were God's people who were humble enough to accept changes when we know we were wrong. And as far as wrong dates go, it's because we "keep on the watch", but still better than other religions because we take note of the time that we're living in.

Did I take myself very seriously??

No. I've always known my weaknesses and my strengths.

As a JW, I always had a lingering doubt about certain things. Especially, after a few years of being an elder, the bullshit scent was undeniable and I kept things inward but i did try to make things better for the "brothers and sisters" by not oppressing them and always making them feel they needed to do more. My liberal view was due to my not taking myself so seriously.

If a person is allowed to choose their beliefs, the beliefs become a part of who they are. Not who they are. Just like a piece of clothing they can choose to change it if they will. The attachment is minimal.

When the faith is handed down the family line it is very difficult to separate it from who you are. "I was born a Catholic, I will die a Catholic"

When you are born in and your family is generations deep in the religion, you take yourself seriously because your identity is at stake. To allow yourself to question and challenge your religion is to challenge everyone and everything you have ever known. Including great-great grandfather and grandmother. To be one of Jehovah's Witnesses means more than just being a part of the religion. The family says "We are Jehovah's Witnesses", and you say "I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses"

    It is so wrong.

The hubris is ingrained as part of the mind control. If you don't even consider the possibility that you're wrong, you will never venture to explore the possibility. Exploring possibilities is a phobia created in the rank and file Dubs. Research JWs and WTS on the Internet and you will find evil apostate stuff from Satan. You don't need that. You KNOW you already HAVE the TRUTH.

"Yes master. I have the truth. I will not explore the possibility that it is otherwise. I FEAR the possibility that I will become corrupted by Satan. Thank you for providing this wonderful spiritual food, FDS!"

The Jehovah's Witnesses take themselves seriously as a heart attack- because they are " cult mind controlled " to do so. As Mad Sweeney said it's ingrained and programmed into them- whether it makes sense or not. They are just mentally off and mentally controlled
