Little Girls in the '70's KHalls: Dresses

Do you remember the short little dresses small girls wore back then in the khall? My mom wouldn't replace ours until they were very short on us. She was very cheap.

When we sat down in a chair, it was very difficult to keep the skirt down far enough.

I remember getting slapped hard on bare skin several times because I couldn't keep my dress down when told to. IT WAS TOO DAMN SHORT!

My dad threw such a fit when my 3 year old sister fidgeted with her skirt that he grabbed her arm and yanked her out of her seat and whispered a bark, "Come on White Dove, we are leaving!" He took the belt to her when we got home. I was 5.

Not the dresses white dove. But I am still haunted by my leisure suits I wore. Those who wore them should have been the ones beaten.

The Borg encourages such behavior, sadly. It demasculates a grown man by removing his independence and making him subject to a group of guys who in any other setting would count themselves lucky to be his peers. Being in subjection to morons (as many wives can attest) is incredibly frustrating and stressful. The borg also encourages behavioral competition among the rank and file by constant encouragement to model oneself and one's family after the "spiritual" families in the congregation. Then the borg gives that same frustrated man with a normal family in a dysfunctional borg society not only the license but the mandate to discipline (aka beat) his kids.

Frankly it's a wonder more kids aren't beaten badly.

Years ago I saw a guy in an assembly hall restroom beating his toddler and I'm ashamed that neither myself nor any of the half-dozen other men in there said or did anything. I still wonder about that little boy and how he's growing up. I hope he ends up here and sees this post some day. I'm sorry. I should have tried to protect you from your daddy and his cult. I could blame the cult mind control but even then I knew it was wrong for that man to beat you like that. Of all the things I did as a JW, this is the one I'm most ashamed of.

I remember the dresses AND I remember getting slapped for just about everything at the KH! Kids were always getttin' slapped around! How mean is that?? I think parents were just so stressed out and it was a time when you could get away with hitting your kids without outside interference. Sad

That is why we wore colored tights from Kmart with our 'babydoll' dresses.......

Than we moved onto the Holly Hobby and Laura Ingalls prairie clothes....

I didn't get spanked, it was against my parents agreement on discipine appropriateness after my stepfather thought it proper to spank me (and stepsister) without any underwear ....... and I was too smart to get my hand swatted......however reading this thread reminds me of the familiar red handprint upside my stepsisters upper rear thigh during summer when we wore little sheer tights (we also wore ruffle pants for modesty when wearing sheers)....

I had to wear skirts/dresses to high school until I was 16 and then the rule was changed. That would have been 1968. Things were different back then even outside the WTS.
