To be fair, I used to hate being asked that so much, that I just quit going to get rid of the annoyance. *G*
Sometimes, towards the end of my irregular meeting attendance days, I just used to look sad and say in my best downtrodden weak Witness manner, "Well, you know how weak I am since the brothers never seem to want to encourage me." *heavy sigh*
That shuts em up really quickly.
I have some acting chops, so be sure you have some if you're going to use that sort of thing. LOL

I'm with Moshe here. It would be so much fun to start a rumor about myself and watch it spread around and watch what happens. If it's not true, have fun with it!

Keep repeating the above statement, and do your best not to change the wording if possible. Make it look like you are being very cold and you're done with it. You do want it to stop, no?

Well, technically, I'm still baptized into this nonsense and could be DF'd, I suppose, if someone found out that I am baptized but don't live like a Witness at all anymore, but no, I haven't thought of myself as a Witness for some years now. LOL
That makes more sense mindmelda- however, a person can't straddle a fence indefinitely.- 'To thine own self be true---, is a very liberating way to live. The sooner a person starts living the life a free person is meant to live, the better it is for them, I believe.
I doubt anyone will bother to DF me when I haven't been to a Kingdom Hall in nearly 7 years, anyway...they have bigger fish to fry I'm sure. I vote, I celebrate holidays, I believe in evolution, I don't even take the Bible literally and I'm pretty free in discussing how I USED to be a Witness to anyone who I might get into a discussion about religion with. I pretty regularly steer people away from the Witnesses in my every day life, especially when it comes up.
I'd kind of hate for my parent's sake for me to be DF'd, though. They're pretty old and not too well, and even though I live 1000 miles from them and we never discuss "the truth" by phone, I suppose they assume I still do some things Witnesses do or don't, although they know I'm inactive and don't attend meetings. I don't lie to them about that and they quit asking quite a while ago.
I'm happy to just keep letting them assume. I'm sure they won't shun me entirely...they didn't shun my brother when he DA himself. They're not active Witnesses either, but are still pretty careful to observe the JW don'ts if not many of the do's. I'm sure it's their own fear of being DF that keeps that going, especially for my dad. My mother was always the one that was really into it. My dad...just along for the ride for quite some years now.
I have no one left to offend by not being a Witness anymore but my mother, really and an aunt that I particularly like, but not wanting to distress elderly ladies in ill health (and it would) is a good enough reason to be a "fader" for the time being.

You are so right. Many people needed baby steps, myself included. The realization will come in time.
did the quick fade... I Made 100% of the meetings to 0 but got the "we miss you" when I ran into people but just said I miss you back with a smile
